Charlotte Hornets' colors will be teal & purple, it's official

Here is the official email from the Bobcats.

As a loyal fan, I wanted you to be among the first to know that we have made the very important decision to bring back purple and teal as our primary colors next year when we become the Charlotte Hornets. It was incredibly important to us that we recognize and acknowledge the heritage of the original Hornets during this process, and clearly the colors are a big part of that.

Purple and teal are colors that did and continue to resonate with our fans. As we did when deciding on the name change, we surveyed our fans and partners about the colors and a vast majority were in favor of purple and teal. The data we collected supported the anecdotal evidence we had and made it clear to us that this was the right decision to make.

Along with purple and teal, the accent colors will be black, cool gray and light blue. We believe these colors will update and augment the color palette and bring it forward to the present.

The color palette is the first step in the overall rebranding process. The next step will be the formal unveiling of the logo. Additional aspects that will come next summer include the unveiling of the court design, uniforms, mascot and more. Each of these items is in the process of being designed and determined and we look forward to sharing them with you at the appropriate times.

In addition to the colors, we have already begun looking at additional ways to honor the history of the original Hornets. We will have one game each month that will be designated as a Buzz City Night. These nights will include appearances by former Hornets players and Buzz City- and Hornets-themed giveaways and promotions. The first Buzz City Night will take place on Saturday, Dec. 21, when we host the Utah Jazz.

We want you to be a part of our Buzz City Nights and the future of our franchise. For ticket information, please call 704-688-8000.

As always, thank you for your support, and thank you for helping us bring the buzz back to the Queen City.

Yea, disappointing because the colors are out dated. I was hoping that they would go with something more modern and not 80's. So I'm hoping that the black and gray are more prominent.

I take it that you're not a fan of of nostalgia?

Just curious and not trying to be a smart ass, but do you think purple and gold are outdated?

I'm not a fan of nostalgia at all. I don't think teal and purple work together like they did in the 80's and early 90's. So I think for the jersey to work the main color has to be purple, teal has to take a backseat while the black, gray and light blue become more prominent.

I'd prefer to get rid of the purple and teal.

Gold and purple, I'm not a big fan of either but it's a lot better then purple and teal.

    • There is quote from Canales somewhere when we hired him.  He was blunt he isn't some creative mind.  He was going to come in here and do X......and that was going to be closer to Foxball than anything we have seen.   And that largely has held true.   It's why he REALLY needs that Jake Delhomme type.  Baker was that.  The downfield gunslinger.   Big plays exist in his O.   You need a gambling QB to go make them downfield.  Bryce pulled the trigger once this week.  But he is just bad at it.  It was that Tmac deep ball that ended up being a PI.  Tmac had his dude beat.  That was the homerun ball this O sets up.   But Bryce underthrew it.  Tmac had to slam on the breaks and come to a full stop and wait for it.    Those just aren't Bryce's throws.    Sure we got the PI.  Some might celebrate that aspect.  But that throw highlights Bryce doesn't make those throws well.  Your WR shouldn't have to come to a complete stop and wait....when he has the guy clearly beat for the over the top play.  That's what the entire thing sets up.  Bryce rarely takes the shot.  When he does, it's generally not a great ball.
    • Sorry to hear that man. Keep that chin up, Panthers aren't worth taking up any headspace. You got this
    • Kinda of like when Hurney went on a GM search as a consultant and the best candidate he found was himself, lol!
