Does Lafell's highs make up for his lows?

Donald LaFell

Man, you guys slay me. What about Wharton? Hell, he missed a block today. Maybe we should replace him. Or Luke, he missed a tackle. He needs to go. You guys expecting perfection need to grow the fug up.

Lafell may not be the best WR on our team. But he is a solid WR, who does everything you need from your supporting cast. No way you can replace him with a rookie who will need time to develop. You need players like him on your team. Especially when you don't have 3 All Pros.

Name a WR who doesn't drop a pass or two. Then maybe we can talk about letting Lafell go. Fugging kids irritate me no end.

You don't need a 16 TD a year player.  There are at least 5 WR's in FA's and at least 5 in the draft who are legit better candidates for the #2 spot.  People need to take off the glasses Lafell is no where near a #2 WR for Any team.  He's never had hands he's never been able to get open.  His only thing thats held him has been "he's a Good blocker"  well even that has dropped off a bunch (see last game vs Nola).

Again the guy was 6th yes 6th on team in receptions from the #2 WR spot just 2 years ago.  You NEVER see that.    For a #3 guy he'd be a solid player but lining him up opposite of your star #1 is a joke.  16 TD's ha Lafell has a total of 13 in his 4 seasons here

I completely disagree with this post. Lafell is a much better player than you give him credit for

I really like LaFell. He's solid for 600+ yards and 4-6 TDs a year, which is great for a possession receiver that is really a #3 option in a run-first, short-passing offense. He normally makes big catches in traffic and on the sidelines, and is solid as a blocker. Sure, he'll have an occasional brainfart, but he's far outnumbered those with good plays.

Holmes is a Super Bowl hero. I guess that drop today was just an aberration. Yeah, Lafell is the only WR who needs to work on his hands.

I think he does. He's a basket catcher. He doesn't trust his hands. He catches the ball with his forearms and chest. The great ones pluck the ball out of the air with their hands

As a rule I think you are right. However, not all catches are created equal. Most times you can use your hands. But there are times when you need to cradle the ball in.

I just happen to think that folks that claim Lafell is a dropper have never caught a pass in their lives.

The problem with using LaFell as a #3 or #4 WR is you'd be severely hampering one of his biggest talents, which is his blocking. As a #3 or #4 receiver, he'd only see the field on passing downs...his blocking could still come in handy as we witnessed on DeAngelo's screen TD today, but it would be neutralized for the most part.

I think LaFell's awareness is under-appreciated by most in here. He has a knack for getting both feet in bounds on those sideline catches.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
