"A lot of times, he wouldn't know I was in there because the door would be closed. He'd come in and all of a sudden the music is loud and of course, he thinks he's the only one in the building, so I used to pound on the door, 'turn that damn music off.'"

Gettleman may have eventually let Accorsi sleep but not himself. From the time he got to the Giants' pro personnel department in 1998, he worked harder than anyone in the organization. Few people anywhere paid more dues. After nearly 30 years behind the scenes in the NFL, they could have easily added up theoretically to franchise quarterback's salary. Now that the dividend has finally come in, people are starting to realize that Gettleman may be just as valuable.

It looks like as of now Jerry hired the right guy!

I still think it will be a few years before we can begin to start judging DG.

For the most part, this is heavily a Hurney squad we are winning with and Riverboat seems to be the biggest change. Yeah, DT play has been big but the wins would have been there the prior years if Roverboat showed up.

For the most part, this is heavily a Hurney squad we are winning with and Riverboat seems to be the biggest change. Yeah, DT play has been big but the wins would have been there the prior years if Roverboat showed up.

 

The bones of this team are Hurney's, but in terms of being an actual GM, Gettleman has had to clean up a lot of Hurney's mistakes, i.e. obscene contracts that left us in cap hell. He's done a great job of that to ensure not only that we get to keep our core guys, but that they don't hamstring us for the future. There's still more work to be done in that area but so far I'm confident we've got the guy for the job.

He knocked his first draft out of the park and brought in many quality FAs that have been big contributors to the team this season--Mike Mitchell, Quentin Mikell, Teddy G, Colin Cole, Chase Blackburn, etc.

 

Gettleman is a damn boss.

If this team makes it anywhere cloae to the Super Bowl in his first season at the helm, you'd have to say he's GM of the year.

When he took this job I said he had to be extremely happy. Not because of landing the job but because he had a number of pieces already in place. He had a big cap number to solve but he had more talent on this team than most teams who change GMs and are in the rebuilding process.  Most of us felt that the Panthers had underperformed the last 2 years going 13-19 and that things would turn around.  Many here thought it would take a new coach, though......

"I told Jerry Richardson at the time I never met anybody that knows as much about the personnel in the National Football League as Dave," he says. "You could question him about any team, any position on that team and he'll give you chapter and verse on the individual player right off the top of his head. There aren't too many guys like that."

      We agree here dawg. I'd love for Bryce to succeed as would all huddlers. I have not seen a single huddler hate Bryce for anything other than his play on the field / potential / skillset. He hasn't gotten any of the irrational hate having nothing to do with football that Cam got. And yeah I understood going into this season with Bryce again as there weren't a ton of options, but man we missed the fuging mark on upgrading at backup QB with someone who could actually push Bryce. Bryce had zero pressure on him with a 100% washed up Dalton being the only other NFL caliber QB in the system. That absolutely needs to change this offseason. Ideally with an actual starter upgrade but that seems extremely unlikely due to not having many FA options and a bad draft. But at the very least with someone like you mentioned, young/upside and/or day 3 pick in the draft.   Another note, we have a top paid and top performing OL, great young talent at WR incl. likely OROY, great RB group, average all around TE group, offensive coach with creativity in the system and good play designs (poor situational playcalling but still I put out current offensive coaching staff over Shula who held Cam back for instance). Not the absolute best situation for a QB to be in, but still a very good situation around him. And yet we have a bottom 8 offense (6th lowest points scored). Imagine taking a victory lap for a QB leading his team to the 6th lowest points scored in the league and the 22nd highest passer rating (despite being asked to do less than many other QBs; i.e. Bo Nix who isn't great either and has a slightly lower passer rating but Sean Payton actually lets him try to throw the ball deep and has him throw significantly more than Bryce). Crazy

      similar to Atlanta and the NHL.  Atlanta has lost two NHL teams (and lost a minor leaguer).  Now there's another coalition pulling together another proposal for Atlanta to get an NHL expansion. While I'd like hockey to be back in Atlanta 'cause hockey is fun, I am skeptical that it'll happen based on previous teams' experience here alternatively: similar to Atlanta hosting a Major Tennis Tournament in advance of the US Open every mid/late summer.  Aside from the fact that Atlanta is said to be the country's largest Tennis playing city (with both USTA and ALTA, along with a number of side leagues) - playing tennis outdoors in Atlanta summer is miserable *and* they had difficulty attracting players... ticket sales were not good. So the Atlanta Open closed after 14 years.  They just couldn't make it happen, even if for all intents it appears to be massive tennis interest in the surrounding area.

      So I saw where Luke was doing that show parallel to the game. Whatever it was, statcast something something, knew it would be a good watch. I don’t get ESPN any more but that would be one of the about few things I would watch outside of games.     He doesn’t fool around on the radio broadcast.
