Officially Concerned about the Offense

its the dream scenario if the fo realized how fuging good gordon was before they traded #52 for a 7th rounder.

Yeah he still wouldn't have been worth all that.  Whether you like it or not, we're going to have a tough time keeping all of our good players this off season and we need those draft picks.

I personally would trade two years of rebuilding if it meant we won the SB, but that's no guarantee.  Hardy needs to get paid.  Cam needs to get paid, and we have a bunch of expiring one year deals on valuable role players.  Plus there's still Nicks out there we may consider.

I just said that Cam rarely hands it off and you just said I only notice it when he keeps it? And yes, we are 12-4, and no, I'm not panicking, but when you say that Cam and Wilson are killing the read option when they clearly haven't had the same level of success as they have had in the past with it and follow it by saying we don't know football, well. . .

When you said Cam rarely hands it off I thought you meant the opposite because Cam gives it most of the time. The read option will never go away. Wilson, RG3, Cam all rack up a lot of yards with that play. The read option only seemed overly successful because RG3 and the Skins used it a lot on the road to the playoffs. It doesn't mean RG3 didn't rack up 489 rushing yards this year while no one was paying attention.

I think its simply WRs not winning there battles and Can not finding the open WR.

Stop thinking, watch the game. Do you see a lot of wide open receivers throughout the games? Let me reiterate, 12-4. Can't believe I have to keep remind panther 'fans?' our record. Cam is one of the best QBs in the league at going through his progression. Even the media don't attempt at accusing him of not being that. Watch the games man! Get yourself NFL Rewind and watch the games again. Sometimes your prejudice makes you see things that aren't there. Watch the games!

Crap, that's what I meant. Cam rarely keeps it. I never said the read option will go away, just that it's an element teams gameplan for much better and so we can't rely on it as an instant fix to offensive woes. And Cam had more yards than RG3 this year with less read option plays, mostly on designed runs and scrambles.

That was the 2002 Bucs. When they won the quote was probably something like "No team has ever won the SB with an offense ranked below 18th" or some other kind of garbage.

Those pull quotes are useless. If our offense gets back on track on the 12th, the regular season is moot.

No, they really aren't. They are a clear indication of history repeating itself and what happens if we don't learn from the mistakes from before.

Tom Brady lead the league in passing in 2007.... yet no team with a leading passer in the league had ever won the Super Bowl before.... incredible how that worked out.  It's only one example and I agree it is NOT a guarantee that OH NO WE WON'T WIN SUPERBOWL, but I don't think history should be completely dismissed either....

And in this instance, with the current state of our offensive production, it is hard to imagine us hoisting the super bowl trophy. The struggle against such a putrid defense yesterday is pretty concerning heading into the playoffs.

Are our offensive players consistent?  No.  Cam throws 10 passes over open WRs' heads (pause for gasps), Lafell can't get open and drops too many balls, the OL is limited, Ginn is a but undisciplined in his route running and he too has inconsistent hands.  Even Olsen has dropped key passes during games.  Our RBs miss blitzes.  We play to the level of the competition on offense.  We need entire games, not spurts.

Our entire offense is troubling. Whether it be the lack of receivers, the horrible playcalling, or the terrible play by the entire right side of the offensive line, nothing seems to work on offense. If we win throughout the playoffs, it's going to be a 2000 Ravens-esque playoff run.

I, personally, would love to see Shula removed in the offseason, and start fresh on offense.

Considering Byron Bell is horrendous and Nate Chandler is in his first year on the offensive line...Darin Gantt said it best, god i hate admitting that, about the offense having to scheme around the right side of the offensive line all year.  They keep extra blockers in to help and rarely send more than two or three receivers out.  When those guys can't get open it makes things difficult too.  I really think we just don't have a lot of talent on the right side of the offensive line and in the wide receiver corps.  I think we were able to disguise that earlier in the year but have been exposed a bit and Shula has been slow to react.

One thing is for sure, we can't run the same plays late in the game during the playoffs like we did yesterday, someone said on Fox that the coaching staff needs to trust Cam and let him make a throw.  I think the game changed a bit when they started giving Cam some nice quick easy throws and he was able to get in a rhythm and settle down.

That has to be a priority during the playoffs, get Cam in a rhythm and keep getting first downs.  The defense needs a break because they play so fast and hard.

Who on here doesn't know we are 12-4?  If that is all you have to add to the conversation then save it, we know it.  As for your question, there were a lot of open receivers during the game.  On at least 5 plays the receiver was wide open and the pass was poorly thrown.  On at least 4 more game shots where they showed the field from the quarterback perspective there were receivers open but Cam was under duress from pass rushers. He didn't throw it early when he could and didn't have a chance to throw it late. Cam is not one of the best going through progressions but he is much better than he was a year ago. He is not good at throwing to a spot before the receiver comes out of his break.  That is why he gets picked.  Too often he tries to throw to a receiver who is open but by the time the ball gets there the defender has recovered or the ball is inaccurate. Sometimes he does what he did with Olsen which is bullet the pass so fast the defense couldn't react in time. Sometimes your negativity towards others clouds your judgement as well.

Go back and watch the game again and get back with me. Let me reiterate, we all know we are 12-4.  Fortunately the team isn't content sitting on their laurels as you presumably are. They know what we fans know which is that when the playoffs start everyone increases their intensity.  Which means the offense will have to play better.  Starting this week everyone is on the same footing.  Win or go home. So concerns about getting better on offense are germaine if we were 17-0. Seems the Patriots found that out against the Giants. In the playoffs great defense beats great offense most of the time.

People forget that the Ravens averaged 20.8 points a game on offense and allowed 10.3 on defense.  The most points they gave up on defense in any game during the playoffs was 10 points.  Truth is that we can only hope to be that dominant.  Their offense was ranked 14th in points scored so people only think they had a defense which isn't totally true.

My only issue with Cam is consistency on throws, I don't know whether it is the o-line making him hurry or his internal clock. He needs to get that down pat. Against the niners/saints/seahawks cam has got to hit those routes.

Positive is that Cam has developed into a full field reader :) that makes me very pleased

    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
    • Winning ain't gonna make my eyes lie to me. Context matters, and it will always matter in the game of football.
    • That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
