Brad Nortman getting some recognition

i actually wanted to draft him. he was on my wish list. i heard talk about the hang time of his punts and loved it. last year there were a lot of people whining about him, even after the draft because there was some other punter that people thought was better because he kicked further.

that hang time was what was needed to get out ST coverage guys in position to help cut back on the returns that were burning us. not only has he helped with that, he's gotten really good at placement and putting some back spin on it. the guy is as good a punter as anyone in the league.

and yeah...he's just a kicker, but it's helped out in huge ways.

Nortman should get most improved on the team.

He went from avg to elite in one season.

Some of those 12 yard shanks last year had people calling for his head, myself included. So happy that we don't run the team!

Nortman is a baller. Great job Brad! May you pin the opposition within the 5 yard line many times in the playoffs!

I think it was one of Rivera's friend's son or something that went in the last round (or udfa) and might not be in the league anymore...

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
