"Flair has yet to give a pregame locker room pep talk, and it's doubtful he will be available for the Jan. 12 playoff game because of a prior engagement.

But Florence is doing his best to arrange something, if not for the 12th then the NFC championship if the second-seeded Panthers win and top-seeded Seattle loses to put the game in Charlotte."

Apparently the guys really want Ol' Ric to come to the game, but he can't because of a "prior arrangement". I'm sorry, but with the troubles Ric has had, and the fact he is retired from wrestling, I just can't imagine a bigger stage for him on a cold January afternoon.

Is it a good move to try to get that guy in our lockeroom?

Who is Ric Flair?

Richard Morgan Fliehr[4] (born February 25, 1949) is a semi-retired American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name Ric Flair.[5] Also known as "The Nature Boy", Flair is considered to be one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time with a professional career that spans 40 years.[6] He is noted for his lengthy and highly decorated tenures with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF)/ and later World Wrestling Entertainment WWE), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). Flair is officially recognized by WWE, TNA, and PWI as a 16-time World Heavyweight Champion (eight-time NWA Champion, six-time WCW Champion, and two-time WWF Champion) although actual number of his World Championship reigns varies by source; Flair considers himself as a 21-time World Champion in NWA, WCW, and WWF (now known as WWE).

Flair has won ten NWA Championships in NWA/WCW, as well as three NWA Championships in All Star Pro Wrestling, All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) and Central States Wrestling (CSW). Along with these he is a six-time WCW Champion, two-time WCW International World Champion, two-time WWF Champion, making him a 21-time World Heavyweight Champion.[7][8]

      I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.

      Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.

      Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
