The Return Man Debate!

I doubt that Beavers, Birmingham, Moore or Munnerlyn will make the team. I like Jason Carter a lot and I think he could do well at returns but he probably won't make the team either. I think it's safe to say that Robinson and Goodson will handle the returns. Hopefully Goodson is dynamite because Ryne is a little girl.

Been drinking have we?

ha no, thought it would be a good joke.

Ryne's to lose.

Goodwin is going to turn out to be a very solid guy.

I can see him catching at least 20 passes this year and getting alot of carries.

That would be surprising, I don't think 20 passes were thrown to RBs all of last year combined.

Williams caught 22, Stewart caught 8, Hoover caught 6. You can assume that if they caught 36, he probably threw to them over 40 times this past year.

Not much of a debate. When's the last time our coaches took a chance on a guy?

Um, last year, when they brought in the (to that point) less-than-impressive Mark Jones, who actually turned out to be our most effective return man since Steve Smith.

The job will undoubtedly go to someone who will be activated on game days and can play other roles. I have a feeling that will be Goodson, who will be a great third back, slot receiver and return man. Ryne, of course, is still very much in the running. I wouldn't rule out Beavers, as he might be the best return man on the team, but he'll have to prove he can also be an effective receiver.

I'd really like to see Beavers on KR, the guy ran a 4.39 40 time. I do think that you're right, this will be stiff competition, but it is an area that we haven't had a lot of sucess in lately. I'm glad t see them address it.

Mark Jones was one of the top returners in the league last year. He gave us plenty of success in the return game. I think it was a bad move to let him go in favor of the injured, less-than-impressive Robinson. Now we're back where we were in '07, scrambling around trying to figure out which guy on the roster will suck the least at returns.

Anyway...given the fiercely loyal nature of the coaching staff, I believe they will start Ryne to begin the season. They won't have let Jones walk to keep Ryne on the bench. With that said, I think Ryne will continue to be a pansy like most of '07. Then Goodson will get his shot, and with his vision and speed I think he'll work out pretty well.

what happens if rynes looses out...i would hate for us to cut him.becuase i know some team will get him

If we end up cutting Ryne, it will only be because someone else is a better option at the return man and/or receiver position. The Panthers must keep the best players they can, and not worry about if another team picks them up.

That being said, I know exactly what you mean. I don't think we've ever had a Panthers team with more depth at the skills positions. Granted, many of these players (i.e. Goodson, Beavers, and yes, Ryne) have yet to prove themselves, but it seems like there is a lot of potential among them. I'd hate to dismiss Ryne without seeing him live up to the potential many of us have for him, but if he gets cut it will be to the benefit of the team.
