nfl to increase # of wildcard spots in the playoffs

Recommended Posts

Adding more teams to the playoffs just makes the regular season mean less.

Which is a bad thing.

Adding another few teams to the playoffs keeps fans from all the 8-8 and 7-9 teams interested for longer cuz now theres a better chance they're in. That means more money for the NFL. More fans tuning into the games, games get higher ratings (thus more advertising money for commercials), more fans buying tix to game, more fans going to the actual playoff game to be gouged with prices, etc. all goodell sees is:

"More playoff teams = more money for him/the league"

Also, with the growing hardship of selling game tickets (see green bay, indi, and cinnci), and fans choosing to watch on tv more, the NFL is now doing whatever it rakes to gain every dollar they can. Yes, this is a very bad thing. Fug u Goodell

So one team would get a Bye.

Lol NFL and lol Goodell.

That incentive system is what makes the NFL system so good and we're going to alter it so the fresking Cowgirls will finally start making the playoffs.

Must be the money, ay Roger?

Damn Nfl will do whatever it can to get Dallas into the dance.

Yeah my first thought was Jerry Jones. More playoff teams means more excited fan bases buying T shirts and tickets. It's a slam dunk for increased revenue. On the other hand it's not healthy for the game. The NFL makes a ton of decisions with money vs. the game and money always wins.

I can only support this if a seeding process accompanies it.

I'm saying if you continue to add playoff teams and do not add seeding we'll see teams with .500 records getting in while there will be 11-5 or 10-6 teams going on the road for a playoff game.

the way it is now (seeding wise), is the way it should be. If you want to host a home playoff game, win your division. Besides, the 12-4 9ers should be able to take care of an 8-8 team regardless of where they play, if they are in fact the "Better" team. Winning your division needs to count for something.

    • Calling carrier for getting punched in the nose just to keep us from a 5 on 3
    • I just mean it’s always offsetting in that situation.  I didn’t realize they called another penalty
    • And as I asked this again before, what goes into PFF's man open %, as I know you've brought that stat up before. Is that just the number of routes he gets open at any point during the route, or is it calculated on targets and if he was open when the ball got to him. Because like I pointed out so many times in the lead up to the draft, a big reason it was harder for him to get separation against man was because he not only had his man on him, but he was double or triple teamed on the majority of his routes this past year.  Just because of that alone, it was easier for him to get open against zone coverage where he could find holes and sit in them. Also, again, as been discussed so many times, his QB's play this year was awful, and lots of times his contested catches were due to him not delivering the ball on time when T-Mac got open.  Or just times he got open but wasn't targeted for whatever reason. So just using that stat as a way to say he struggles to get open against man is more likely than not, disingenuous. Hell, it's a PFF stat that you're using against him, yet at the same time, PFF absolutely loves him, he was their 4th overall player.   I posted this clip on here a week or so ago of the T-Mac vs Hunter game in 2023, where the anti T-Mac guys like to say Hunter shut him down.  But numerous times in this video you see T-Mac create tons of separation from Hunter but the ball wasn't thrown his way, plus a clear PI that wasn't called (and the one that was). https://x.com/4MR_Fetti/status/1918262063660454227 The "he can't separate" narrative is way overblown and become something more myth than reality.  No, he's not an elite separator like some of the quick twitch WRs, but he's so much better than the haters here like to say.
