49ers Fans are a cocky bunch - a little history...

The 49ers seem to have one of the cockiest groups of fans that I've seen in a long time.  They clearly have a long history of NFL dominance however, so clearly they have earned that right...right?

Let's look at things a little closer as they relate the only relevant period as it relates to their comparison with the Carolina Panthers.  Since Carolina entered the league in 1995, that's where we'll start (in fairness to SF, they won the Superbowl in 1994...just a year too early for this comparison).

San Fransisco

Superbowl Titles - 0

NFC Championships - 1

Division Championships - 3

Carolina

Superbowl Titles - 0

NFC Championships - 1

Division Championships - 4

Clearly, they have earned the right to be cocky....right?

and lead by a cockyback call Kaep..... every bit of respect for them left when they took a dump on Smith. He is the only reason that chump at Qb  is relevant. and yes I agree. they'll become the current Cowboys soon enough. watch and see. and the Pats will follow. Arrogance is the bad side of winning.

And lots of us became fans in 2013. We are a good team for sure, but for every fan of theirs, there are two of ours that a ready to talk smack and beat down thier chances of winning based on this season alone.

I mean I believe in our team as much as the next guy, but to talk such crap to a team that won the NFC last year when we didnt even finish even and still talk as if they have no chance at all and we are destined to dominate them is far more arrogant than anything I have seen so far posted on their board.

Its not the comments that are arrogant really, its what backs up those comments..and in that case, we ARE on the short end of the stick like it or not (until we win this game)

I'm not talking crap about them.  I believe that they are a very good team and it's going to be a tough game that could go either way.  My point is that by looking at the comments I'm seeing from their fans (and though the national media, etc.), we're basically being looked at as nothing more than a stepping stone to their all but guaranteed win.

This is 2014.  We're both in the same position, except we are playing the game in Carolina.  The past is irrelevant to the game that's being played on January 12th, 2014.

I agree with you that the confidence being shown by the Panthers fans is a little surprising, but I think a lot of that is in retaliation to the team being considered as an underdog in their own house, against a team they've already beaten this year.  There is a level of disrespect being given for the Panthers...and I hope that it adds a little extra motivation to the team (although I don't think they'll need that).

I live in California and I only know TWO niner fans that rooted for them before all of the bandwagoners hopped on board in 2011.

A father and son from SF. I know tons of charger fans and even raider fans but those were the only 2 niner fans that I know are legit. I find that pretty amazing since I'm only a few hours away from SF.

Being cocky this year has nothing to do with last year or the 1980s or for us 2003. Each season is different and the past has little bearing now. We beat them at their house and are 7-1 at our house. I can understand why our fans are cocky this year. Unless I am in the wrong thread and being cocky is about the history of the team and not about this Sunday.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
