1)  When the Panthers were on the 2 yard line and the defensive player launched himself over the line and made contact with Cam....why was this simply a half the distance to the goal penalty and not a first down?  Basically the Panthers got a yard out of an off sides penalty where contact with the QB was made.  Is this not a personal foul?

 

2)  When Ginn was interfered and held on his way to a clear TD, why was it only a 5 or 10 yard penalty and not a spot of the foul penalty?  He was on the 30 when grabbed and we received the ball on the 50.

 

3)  When SF was on the 30 something before half time and we were called for pass interference how is that interference if the WR was running and post and the pass was thrown as a comeback pass?  Is the CB suppose to move out of the WRs way and allow him to come back to the ball when he has no vision of the throw.  Was that ball even catchable?    

 

4)  12 men in the huddle?  How can they not call that?

 

5)  Boldin head butt?  How can they not call that?

 

6)  Why did coach Rivera not settle down the DBs after the 1st personal foul?  3 for 45 yards is absurd.  

 

SF won the game because Carolina could not score in the red zone and it is really that simple, but how can so many calls get screwed up?

goodell and the nfl had a plan.

 

refs did what they had to do.

 

i've avoided posting on this board after the game until this morning because i thought how furious i was with the refs would subside and i would realize the 49ers were just the better team and I never blame the refs for losses cause i think good teams overcome them.

 

the 49ers were not the better team yesterday, the refs completely fuged us. they scored 13 of their points off blatantly terrible calls. and it's not just the points, those were momentum changing calls.

 

never in my life have i been this furious about a game before. never.

Calls were horrible, but had the Panthers scored when they were suppose to we would have won the game.  We came away with 3 points after 2 trips to the red zone and then we were on the 30 in the 3rd quarter after an 11 minute drive and Cam took 2 sacks that moved us out of FG range.  The Panthers had the win if they just scored the points even with the poor calls.

 

Cam said it best on sports center today....Playoff football is much faster paced and you must seize your chances because they may not come back around.  I think Cam learned more than we as fans can ever imagine from playing in this game.  I'm sure of it.

the 49ers scored a TD as a result of the refs not doing their job despite keek and TD trying to make them aware of it.

 

the panthers were playing against the 49ers 12th man all game, tho...i just never thought the refs could ever be the 12th man. i see the light now.

I thought it was really weird that the clock was constantly running after players went out of bounds - it happened several times.  Might be some wrinkle to the rule that I'm not aware of, but I thought that if a player went out of bounds and it's not within 2 minutes the clock generally stopped.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist- but I completely buy into this.

 

I posted in another thread but obviously a 49ers vs Seattle game is way more ratings and has a cooler storyline.

 

The NFL is set up as an "entertainment" company, not a sport.  It's one company, not 32-teams.  It can LEGALLY set-up games.  Just like the WWE can.   Just one, or a couple refs doing things can change the outcome of a game.

 

Look at last year with the Ravens.  One of the MOST penalized teams in the league goes into the playoffs and plays teams like Denver, NE I believe, and 49ers, and all of a sudden they get like no holding penalties or anything?   They morphed into another team?  No, things started changing when a Ray Lewis retiring story came up and they always had a plan for the "Harbough Bowl"?  Then the Super Bowl was a blow out, but here comes a power outage, because if the Super Bowl drops beneath certain ratings they have to give money back to advertisers.  So here comes the 49ers after killing Baltimore's momentum to make it more of an even game.  There hasn't been a blow out in the super bowl since Tampa vs Raiders, over 10 years.  I find that pretty odd, statistically there should have been at least one.   

 

I'm really sour on the NFL/pro sports right now, if you dig deep and read up on some things, it's really disheartening.

true, but we shouldn't have to be playing against the refs and the opposing team.

 

that kind takes the wind out of your sails when you know that even the refs are against you.

 

we should have scored when we were in the end zone, yes.

 

but the 49ers shouldn't have been in position to score a couple times, but were because of missed calls and they shouldn't have scored on that 12th man non-call.

 

we lost because we had two opponents that day.

The call on Ginn was sadly right. Holding was actually a smart play. The nfl needs to change that much like a clear path foul in the NBA. The db's haf mouthy to lose but 5 yrs. Now its an automatic first but it should have been at the spot of the foul.

      I don't need that many words to say Bryce Young has not yet surpassed the caliber of QB play that current Joe Flacco represents.   I have watched every game Bryce has played.  He doesn't give you average QB play.   He can't make a ton of throws.  Bryce is consistent overall in what he is.  You can take outlier games on both ends of the spectrum out of play and judge him or any QB.....for Bryce it is unquestioned bottom of the league play.  All you have to do is watch the two play.  Flacco is good enough that if you can keep up right and give him time.....he presents a level of play Bryce can't do as a passer

      You kinda gloss over this, but this is really at the crux of this whole argument....which Flacco are we talking here?  You bring up that he played with 3 different teams but ignore the fact that his performance varied quite a bit from team to team. 2024 Colts: 65.3% completion, 12 TDs, 7 INTs, 220.1 YPG, 7.1 Y/A, 90.5 rating 2025 Browns: 58.1% completion, 2 TDs, 6 INTs, 203.8 YPG, 5.1 Y/A, 60.3 rating 2025 Bengals: 63.4% completion, 12 TDs, 3 INTs, 290.6 YPG, 6.8 Y/A, 96.2 rating 2025 Flacco (Browns + Bengals): 61.1% completion, 14 TDs, 9 INTs, 252.0 YPG, 6.1 Y/A, 80.8 rating vs. 2025 Bryce: 62.7% completion, 14 TDs, 7 INTs, 196.2 YPG, 6.2 Y/A, 86.0 rating I bolded the comparison that I think objectively makes the most sense...just simply comparing the two QBs for the entire season.  Otherwise you'd be cherry-picking Flacco's time with the Bengals and ignoring his earlier stint with the Browns, which sounds an awful lot like people cherry-picking Bryce's stats in the second half of last season. So again, which Flacco?  Basically the only thing consistent with Flacco across each of these teams was his W/L records: 2-4, 1-3, and 1-4 respectively.  I'd say if we're comparing each version of him to Bryce this year: Colts Flacco > 2025 Bryce, Browns Flacco <<< 2025 Bryce, Bengals Flacco >> 2025 Bryce, and 2025 Flacco < 2025 Bryce - Flacco this year only beats out Bryce on YPG but in part because he throws significantly more passes (almost 60 YPG more than Bryce, despite a lower Y/A which is pretty telling) .  Flacco is maybe the most apt case study about how important a QB's circumstances are to his success.  He was easily a bottom 3 QB in Cleveland and arguably top 10-15 in Cincinnati...and we're talking about the same player from the same season.  All that happened was taking him from one team and plopping him onto another team; nothing inherently changed about him as a QB.  Funny enough I think that's all that one dude on here was trying to say when he made that long poorly-received post after having an epiphany working for PFF behind the scenes or w/e.  That it's largely short-sighted to just try to evaluate QBs in a vacuum when there are so many variables at play that ultimately decide whether a QB is successful or not.   I think Bryce has been mediocre at best this season and I'm ready to move on regardless of how he ends this season - I'm highly skeptical a strong end to the season will carry over into next year considering how last year ended and this year began.  I would certainly agree that he's a bottom-third QB this year.  I just don't understand you scoffing indignantly at anyone holding the opinion that Bryce has had a better season than Flacco...I can only assume it's recency bias.  Or maybe you know the stats don't support you, which is why you're conjuring up the god-forsaken arbitrary "eyeball test" which is the kinda thing people in here were saying about Fields for years, pinky promising that he really truly was a franchise QB despite his awful stats.  Perhaps it's called the eyeball test because I roll my eyes anytime I hear someone bring it up seriously as an argument.
