Flipside of G'man's Faith in Cam = Derek Anderson is gone. Definitely.

Look at it from a GM's perspective.  We've been paying a $$ premium for a backup QB with a good amount of starting experience.

Cam has not only proven himself to be the guy long term, but he has also proven that he can be durable despite his style of play.

I fully expect DG to draft a project QB or rummage around the bargain bin for a cheaper alternative. (or both)

Bye bye DA. It's been fun.

I don't know how much Anderson's salary is but the only "faith in cam" that would change gman's mind on how much to pay a backup QB is is faith in cam's ability to stay healthy. People still want good backup qbs even if their starter is great, and Anderson wasnt gonna be competing for the starting job no matter what Cam did this year.

DA becomes cheaper every year he doesn't play meaningful minutes.

When I listen to Gross podcast, it seems that DA is important player for the group and he's a sounding board for Cam. He's better than most backups, I would pay a little more for a good backup, and he likes it here.

DA isn't costing that much.  A little over a million I think. And many people don't know that he's been a wonderful mentor for game.  DA is a quality backup and he helps the team and Cam in a lot more ways than as a saftey valve if Cam hurts his pinky.  We don't need a young buck QB.  Cam is only going into his 3rd year and if you have a franchise QB locked up you don't go looking for his replacement.

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
