Espn: Norv Turner close to OC deal with Vikings

Another coach intertwined with RR may be leaving the train wreck called the Browns. So we may all get to watch Norv try to turn Ponder into a NFL QB and to work his magic with that offense.Im sure if Shula lays an egg next season the comparisons will start.Let the games begin.

In fairness (though Shula wasn't always perfect), I'd like to see Donnie's son with an improved offensive line and a couple of legitimate weapons added next year.

That could make a world of difference (especially with Cam having time behind the line, throwing to some legitimate NFL receivers other than Smitty, with Ginn as a 3 0r 4 man, and NO LaFail).

Just look at how Cam was able to successfully throw deep during the first half of the playoff game with space?

That's really my thinking as well.

Yeah, if you just look at what Cam was able to do the first half of the playoff game, it brought back memories.

He just needs a better line, and with some added weapons, I think Shula will throw deep more, and/or Cam will be more successful at it, percentage wise.

We forget how deadly accurate Cam can be (especially down field) when he has time or clear sightlines.

And of course, better receivers (like a Golden Tate, and who ever), will catch more of those "high balls" that so many here like to bicker on and on about (both short, long, and in the endzone).

Better as an OC

Seems to have a rep as being a QB developer.  Could mean he helps with Ponder, or, that the Vikes want a new guy drafted at #1. Never know

Who did he develop besides Rivers to some extent and Aikman 2 decades ago.  What he is known for is producing mediocre records and never reaching the Super Bowl despite sometimes having some very talented teams in San Diego.

    • Then why are they paying QBs so much compared to other players? QB are making so much it's harder and harder to pay other players. If a guy plays like 1 of 11 then there pay should be in line with that. Not all QB should be breaking the bank just because your next or a former 1st rounder There is a reason they say try to win it all on a QB rookie deal because after that they can cripple a team on what it can do. I would rather not do that for a bottom 1/3 QB. Cam and Jake have been the only QBs worth investing long term into this team has had I would rather not lower the bar. If a guy don't got the IT factor and it shows I would rather not invest long term into them and keep looking
    • Aho…come out and prove me wrong boy.
    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
