Is a lack of receivers really the problem?

Or is it the lack of time Cam has in the pocket. A few things of note is that Cam lacked in deep balls this year. This was mainly due to the line. Now, when Cam had time against the Niners, he picked them apart and nailed a perfect pass to smith. Now we definitely need a WR, but maybe the focus should be on overhauling the line and not forking out completely for a WR. Not to mention, our line gets absolutely NO push, and isn't great at opening holes. We could have Megatron out there, but if Cam is constantly under pressure and either doesn't have time to throw, or have errand throws, then even Megatron would have a down year. There's so many offseason threads on here asking the same damn questions, but where's this one? For fug sake, we had a third tier defensive tackle starting at right guard for us!

Generally Cam holds onto the ball longer then most other qbs trying to make something happen because the wr's couldn't get separation. Which has the effect of making the line look worse, while the oline needs to be improved and the team needs a long term LT, it also desperately needs youth and talent at the Wr position.

I still don't think WR is going to be the answer. IF we go after the caliber of CB or OL that we would a WR, i personally think it would bring those levels up to sustainable. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go with CB in first round either.

I do not think it is the problem but it is part of the problem. I think our inability to run the ball is mostly to blame. When you can run it opens up our passing game.

Having said that we do need a receiver that can get separation and hold on to the ball.

Outside of Ginn on long routes, our receivers struggle to get separation. Olson is the only "receiver" that can regularly get open and separate. This makes a big difference because Cam always has to fit the ball in a tight window.

Smitty is a stud, but he needs to be in the slot.

I agree separation is what we are missing in the passing game.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
