How does Gettlemen stack up to other GMs?

We talk so much about players and coaches but I feel under the CBA the the GM has one of the most challenging and important positions on the team.

I think Gman deserves both credit and blame for our team falling just short of a NFC championship game with the pros far outweighing the cons. My guess he was around a top 5 GM in the league last year.

What grade would you give him in the following categories from A to F ?

Cap management/right sizing contracts

Draft (Were our picks the best available talent when they were picked)

Free agents (Did he scout and bring in right quality and quantity of talent?

Early returns are pretty good.

Next few years will tell us a lot more.

My only knocks on him last year is the talent of the right side of the OL,CB, and not upgrading the number 2 WR .I did like the signing of Ginn. We were pretty close though a few more players and we could have handled the 49ers in the playoffs

Way too soon to answer these questions. Obviously, everyone is pretty happy with how things went in his first year. He proved he could find cheap talent in FA and the draft went well. But there were so many other things that went into us having a good season, like Cam's and Ron's development, and our ability to win a couple more games that usually have gone the other way in the past. A lot of our key pieces still came from Hurney, so it's hard to say how he can build an entire roster, but that's not a knock on him.

We can only go on the facts, and he did a great job in his first year. Everyone should feel really good about him, but it's too soon to compare him to other GMs around the league.

I'd give him an A for his first year.

I don't even think you can knock him for those things, because it's unrealistic to think he could have fixed everything in 1year. He had to prioritize, and he chose the pieces that got us to 12-4.

He's done an amazing job given what he was dealt.  He inherited a horrendous cap situation and somehow managed to bring in a good influx of talent that pushed the Panthers over the edge and into the playoffs.  More than anything I think he changed the culture between the players and the administration.  Hurney used to shell out huge contracts like it was no big deal.  Gettleman is a shrewd businessman who won't sign a player for more than he is worth.  I think that makes the players work harder to earn their money and it also bodes well for the future of the team.

But upgrading those areas would have come at the expense of the upgrades he did end up making.  Last year he had to pick and choose what to focus on.  We only had so much money and so many draft picks that it was impossible to do any more than he did.

First year how can you complain? 12-4 with a cap hell and limited salary space picking up other peoples cast offs and turning them into gems with the help of the coaching staff! Had only five piicks and acquired the best two DTs in the draft and one of the most promising LB too, picked up a good RB basd on College career and who knows until the kid gets playing time, kugbila ok the jury is out but gettleman seems to know talent especially hogmollies so I have evey faith he will turn out to be a good player too.

I said before and will say again the panthers got lucky with acquiring gettleman, his experience on the game is invaluable but the kicker is the scouting experience the talent assesser he has worked as over the years, first and foremost he is a scout he knows what a player looks like and that can only stand us in good stead for the future, he can't be expected to solve all out problems in two years, maybe even three but I honestly believe we have one of the best GMs in football, and he will prove it.

    • I turned to the NFL Network and they are playing the Wildcard Game against the Rams I think we gained a lot of respect around the league we hung in there for a while into the 4th Quarter 🙂
    • Does anyone know for sure if the game tonite will be on HBO max?  That is where I watched the last one and only access I currently have- I am in SE NC and no broadcast stations carry the games.😖
    • take a  look around the league at other young Qb's such as Drake Maye , Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix , CJ Stroud  & Caleb Williams who at the time like Bryce Young they also were drafted by teams with a losing record .the only difference with these Qb's is after joining their teams with a losing record they led those same teams to a winning record in a very short period of time .it's simply what you call a game changer & or elite Qb's & then take a  look at  the other side of the coin you have Qb's such as Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Justin Fields  & Anthony Richardson also like Bryce Young all first round picks who instead of winning either did not play or led their teams to a losing record while playing  Bryce Young who has an overall record of 14-30 & wildly inconsistent & never in the history of the NFL has a Qb 5'10" or shorter had a successful carrer as Qb in the NFL  if anything history is telling you exactly what ?..just saying
