No Joke: The players apparently didn't like Gettleman

if players don't like the coach or don't like each other...that's probably an issue.

if the players don't like the guy who gets/keeps them employed, that's not that big of an issue. it's not like they have to spend every day with the guy or anything.

Love DG he understands how there is a shift in terms of the money in the NFL

Think about this.

Whenever top free agent hits the market chances are they are going to get overpaid because some sucky team has alot of money and really need talent. Then when other player's contract needs to be renewed they compare their worth to the overpaid guy who just got paid big bucks. I deserve more than him cause I am better. Heck just look at Romo, Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler and other guys. Everyone is overpaying. Guess what happens when you do that? You run out of money to field the entire team which is what you see now.

Cowboys Saints and other teams just flat out don't have any money and they have to release a ton of players. Now you have a bunch of free agents wanting to get paid and there is no money. There is a reason the salary cap got raised 10mil this year. The practice of overpaying is killing teams. That is why you get those 1 year mercenary deals DG was talking about.

I don't care if players like a GM, as long as they respect him.

Ask anybody who's played for the Patriots and then been jettisoned how warm and fuzzy the team was to them.

You want to draw the best players?  Put together a roster that can win Super Bowls.

You want to draw players that talk a good game but are ultimately happy just getting a paycheck?  Run your team like Hurney did.

why should anyone care about the relationship between management and player??

the GM deals with the players agent...........not the player.

one day this fan base will figure it out.

PS..........Gman is something special..........stfu and let him perform his magic.

i think in one year of managing the team, he's done plenty to earn that respect.

he doesn't hide the fact that his job is to make the franchise better...not to be liked by the employees. his commitment is to the team, not the players.

i think he's a likeable fellow, he's just not trying to be their buddy like hurney was. business first.

To expand on rayzor's post, here is a fact of life for some of the younger posters on this site. Anybody who walks around with coaches shorts jacked up to their neck is straight up business first. Write it down and don't forget it.

And obviously they don't give a damn about what people think. Hell, my grandfather wore plaid Bermuda shorts with high blue socks. You think he gave a damn?

If he didn't change in New York, what makes you think he'll change here? Like I said previously in another thread, G-Man is who he is.

He didn't have to speak to the media in New York. It's just playing the media game and being savvy. If he doesn't there will be more problems like smitty.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
