Question for Steve haters

I want to see some visual evidence from just one of you geniuses that, prior to Gettleman's comments, suggested cutting him for cap reasons as a good idea. Otherwise, I will assume you are simply supporting this move of the guy behind it (Gettleman) and not because of the reasoning behind it.

I'm not a Smith hater. I just want what's best for the team. Myself, not being in a position to know or control what is best for the team, has to rely on the FO and I have little choice but to support their decisions and hope for the best.

You don't go and cut or trade a franchise-hero like Smitty without really sound reasoning behind doing so. Think about it.

It's not our job to think ahead about the betterment of the team.  It's the job of the front office.

If some of the fans were in charge,  30 years from now,  we'd still have 89 on the roster as the #1 WR,  making around $40M a year.

Did you support all of Hurney's decisions?

I actually agree with you here. I think a lot of people are just supporting it because Gettleman seems to have started the idea. For someone reason, Dave Gettleman is becoming the almighty to some people.

My gut tells me the meeting between DG and Smitty didn't go well.  At the Clemson pro-day, Smitty said he is still training as a Carolina Panther until told otherwise.  My guess is that DG wouldn't commit and Smitty won't take a paycut.

It's not exactly a new thing. Up until the day he was released, a large part of the board had their tongues so far up Hurney's ass they could taste breakfast. Once he was shitcanned, everyone always knew what a total fuging moron the guy was, what the fug did you expect with a SPORTS WRITER playing GM, etc. etc.

You're just seeing the same with Gettleman now. Yesterday, you were a moron if you didn't recognize Smith as a force and our best receiver. ICE UP SOOOOON! Today you're a moron if you don't see the benefit of cutting Smith who let's be honest is overrated and a total dickbag and never taught anyone anything and is a selfish asshole who wont play for $12.50 an hour to help the team and so on.

You're making it seem like the guy puts up 100 yards a season and makes $12million/year. The $7million IS a lot, but cutting him would only save us $2million!!! Stupid stupid decision to cut him. G-man should've just asked him nicely to take a pay cut, and explained the situation, and I bet you anything Smitty would've helped out or at least restructured. He's team first, not me first.

I don't support what's going on with Smith qi have been against everything since Gettleman said that Smith was being evaluated without speaking to Smith prior to saying it...
He also said this at the press conference at the end of the season but nobody made a big deal out of it then. He said that they were going to take a few weeks to evaluate the team before free agency and the draft. He said they were evaluating everyone. Then comes the combine and a reporter asked him again and specifically asked about Smith at which point you could tell he was obviously perturbed about it but he gave an honest answer and complimented Smith in the process. If Steve was surprised he was being evaluated then he wasn't paying attention because it had already been addressed weeks before and he certainly should have known his contract was due to be renegotiated. It's how Hurney set it up before he signed it. I'm not hating either side here. I just don't see the big deal about the Gmans comment nor the need to redo Steve's contract. He's been paid handsomely for his services so he's owed no additional respect. The way some act here it's as if we murdered his family and burned down his house and are taking him to the woods to behead him. Sent from my Nexus 7 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

    • The difference is about how much player input is allowed and encouraged in the decision making process. Top down teams tend to dictate to players how everything is handled. Disagreements are handled by the coach and players are expected to do what they are told regardless of what they think or feel.  Players are perceived as commodities to be used until we find better. In player led teams player input is encouraged and valued. Players and especially leaders are expected to settle their own disagreements and be accountable to the team but mostly to each other. Players are family to be appreciated and supported in their growth. Is the reality of football the same in both? Yeah there are limited positions, football is a business and winning is the bottom line. Coaches get final say and run the program because that is their job. But in player led teams they feel valued, appreciated, part of a larger whole. Most people who have worked at multiple jobs know exactly what I am talking about. When players try to run the show and don't value  coach input that isn't a player led team, that is a circus which we surely are familiar with in our past.
    • For our pics and trades tonight and tmrw.  Remember, Aho was a 2nd rounder and Slavin was a 4th rounder.
    • Seems to be the consensus from the talking heads. I really wish we had double dipped at center in the 2nd round. Sion will never play in the league.
