One thing that sticks out in my mind was a game against the Giants in 2009. We were blowing them out, and Smith took a huge blow from a Giant DB, snapping a bone in his arm, and he still managed to score with one arm. After the game John Fox said something about how Smith had used his arm to shield himself from a helmet blow, and that the helmet won. I remember thinking at the time "no Fox, Smith won". He always won. Steve Smith is the greatest Panther player in the history of our franchise. Thanks for the memories Steve, it won't be the same without you.

By the time I wake up later today I'm expecting a lot of moves to have already been made, if Steve is among them I will regretfully say good bye to the Greatest Panther of all time, no doubt to this point in the Panthers History he is truely the greatest player we have ever had.

So many memories. Sad day for the Panthers as a whole. I know it's a business and it's probably time to go our separate ways but wow the thought of him never being on the Panthers sidelines ever again is a sad thought. Thank you Smitty.

My heart is literally breaking. I'm usually so good with words, but they escape me now. This hurt feels like it could never heal. He's like a family member, a best friend, someone you've pinned your hopes to for so long that's leaving. He made watching every Sunday fun, even when there wasn't much else to cheer for (thanks Jimmy).

His plays were nothing short of epically amazing. His heart and fire made me jump and scream around my living room or in the stands, so thankful the 89 was on my team. His attitude and sound bites were legendary. He was invincible.

I will miss you, Smitty. I hope you find the ending that you so deserve and I will root for you to get it.

Thanks for giving your all on every snap for 13 years. I'm gonna go cry now.

There is literally nothing in the world that could get me so amped on a Sunday afternoon than seeing 89 snag a ball out of double coverage and jump up immediately and spin the ball to the ground and let the DB's know who's boss.

Or when after a running play, the camera would always flash down to the bottom of the screen and catch Smitty beating the hell out of some corner; then seeing the entire offense running to his defense in case things escalate.

Steve Smith is and will always be my favorite athlete in all of sports.

I think the Carolina Panthers will be consistently good with Cam and Luke as the lead dogs for years to come, but I am not ashamed to admit I hope 89 gets his Superbowl, no matter where he will soon reside.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
