Steve Smith Will Not Be In a Panthers Uniform Next Season

Recommended Posts

I mentioned this above, but how much can you put on the offense itself? Cam threw for 500 less yards than he did last year; some of those yards would have gone to Smith. 250? (since 1000 seems to be the magic number), I don't know, but we simply did not run a good offense last year. Everyone's actual numbers suffered. What sticks out to me is that Smith accounted for 22% of our quarterback's total passing attempts, which appears pretty adequate for a number 1 from what I can tell.

Smith accounted for 1/5 of Cams production. You can move 100 yards over if you want to extrapolate data with Cam throwing for 500 more yards

The offense doesn't stop people from making plays.  Do you not think the offense as a whole suffered because the talent on the offense (including smith) was lacking?

Steve Smith is now driving the boat.

His twitter posts are a direct challenge to the Panthers to release him so he can maximize his double dip on the team of his choice.

GOOD FOR YOU SMITTY!!!

The one thing this whole fiasco has shown, is that SS is not driving anything.

If DG didn't toe his boss' assumed company line, he sure isn't going to cave to any tweets.

I love SS too but it is safe to say that not one detail of this is under his influence.

Not to mention that he missed two games. Now, that in ITSELF is a concern, but leaving that aside for the moment - in an offense like we ran in 2011-2012, AND playing a full 16 games (yes, a lot of hypotheticals here), is it really too much of stretch to say he would have gone over 1,000 had we ran a competent offense and hadn't gotten hurt? I mean, accounting for 22% of your quarterbacks passing yards while only playing 14 games is pretty incredible.

Please God dont go to the Saints.

Opposite here. He goes to NO and he's probably going to build his stats enough to have a chance at the Hall. Besides, if you read the thread he's washed up and sucks now. No worries.

Well, I mean, Cam only threw 12 less times than he did in 2012 and had 12 more completions than he did in 2012.  They just weren't all vertical but we still aren't getting any yards after catch

Oddly enough I want him to go to New England if the FO won't keep him around. With Brady and that system he could really put up some numbers.

    • I'm super excited about the guys we're getting back, and fortunately this year, outside of Robert Hunt, we haven't had any season-threatening injuries. Rico has earned the start, but I am excited to have both available.  The team is finally turning into the run-first team Canales said he wanted to be. As for JT Sanders, I think he has lost the most be being out. He is probably our best receiving TE, but with the emergence of Mitchell Evans & with him and Tommy Tremble both absolutely balling in run blocking, it will be hard to fix something that isn't broken. I'm hoping Turk Wharton can help with our pass rush. We really havent gotten to see him much due to injuries, but we desperately need anyone to provide some pass rush juice, which is what he was brought to do. I'm the most excited about Jalen Coker returning. Theilen may have been the most clutch last year, but I've watched a lot of film, and Coker was the most consistent WR we had when he was out there last year.  I think he can be an ideal #2 to Tmac. While Coker doesn't have the raw athleticism XL does, his route running, savvy, and overall football IQ simply make him better.  I think with the fact Coker can play both outside and in the slot will give our pass game more versatility.  We have been running a lot of 2 TE sets, and I think Tmac & Coker should be the primary WRs for 12 personnel. The other WRs (XL, Tremayne, Renfrow, & Horn) all have roles, but I dont think any of them can fully replace what Coker can do. I do think Renfrow will be inactive this week if everyone is healthy bc of how valuable Tremayne is for ST and as a run blocker. So happy that we are playing meaningful football heading into November. We are still almost certainly a year away, but we are absolutely moving in the right direction
    • Better than a fragile starter, though
