Bucs Sign Josh McCown

He won't help them much. He was an overachieving veteran backup (who is a quality player, but nowhere near great) who filled in on Trestman's new offense with all the Bears' weapons (Forte, Marshall, Bennett, Jeffrey). It's unclear to me whether he'll be competing with Glennon, or backing him up / pushing him, or just having McCown come in as the starter. I wonder if they'll draft a QB too... Maybe Carr if he falls to them in the 2nd?

What I've been told about a landing spot for Smith is Tampa if certain things fall a certain way. Smitty is apparently good friends with Josh McCown from his tenure here with us. The Bucs have (allegedly) told McCown that he would start in the event he signed with them. If that is the case, he would probably convince Steve to play down in Tampa with him, they could room together and be buds all the time again. McCown’s family lives in Charlotte apparently. If this is the case then Smitty would have the opportunity to play with his buddy, a QB that is familiar with him and would possibly favor him as a target, as well as play the panthers twice a year.

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
