Smith was viewed as a distraction by Getts

I was asking a valid question that nobody seems to be able to answer.

It's not really a valid question.   Why on earth would any of our guys that appeared on This Is Gross,   speak ill of Smith?   We don't have a bunch of douches on our team that go around using any form of the media to blast teammates.

If Cam or anyone else had a problem,  they would have probably went to the HC and the HC probably would have went to the GM.

You especially don't go public about someone like 89.     The guy will be a borderline HOFer, that has been here for like 13 years.....   so he has the cred....of "been there,  done that".

Gman is taking a page out of Reese's playbook when Giants cleared out Shockey/Barber voices so Manning had a clearer path to leadership. It seemed to work there.

We don't want super bowls we want our favorite players to be around 4eva

. But Smitty was far from a distraction.

I love him as a player, but I do not know how you can say this.  He punched out 2 teammates, criticized others in the media, told reporters he is playing for career numbers, etc.

And we know little of what happens behind closed doors.

I suggested that they wanted him out to allow Cam and Luke to lead without a distraction, and I got bombarded with comments from people who made fun of my hunch.  "LOL. Like Cam can't lead with Smitty on the team."  --this from one of those sarcastic posters who never offers anything but criticism to the board.  .

You misunderstood the question. I was making a note of the fact that many of our players said they had a special group last year.

Why would they say that if someone (anyone) was a major distraction? Most likely, they would say nothing at all.

Please don't twist my words.

I dont know if Smith was a distraction as much a he was a cause for qbs to develop tunnel vision.  It happened to Delhomme and its happening to Cam.  Smith demands the ball in such a way coaches have to alter their game plan to accommodate him.  Steve Smith is no longer able to beat the double teams and the tunnel vision is crippling the offense.  How many times did Cam throw into double/triple coverage to force the ball to smith.  This is why the carolina offense suffers.  Cam needs to be able to go through his progressions to find the open target, not just try to find a way to get smith the ball.  Removing smith from the equation will force Cam to become a better qb and see the field as he should and not just trying to find Smith.  End of Line.

I used to watch OTAs with my sons, and one thing we noticed was that Smitty had one best friend on the team and used to spend the entire warm up time with him.  It was, rather ironically, John Kasay.   Whenever there was free time, Smitty found Kasay.  He talked to others at practice, but was rather isolated.  I could not tell if it was Smitty's choice or the team's, but it was obvious.  Did anyone else notice this?
