In Gettleman's release he said "I", not "We" which makes me believe this wasn't a mutual decision. Rivera wouldn't have put up much protest since he just inked a new contract.

I question this though...  Didn't Rivera make a statement after the combine flap somewhere that Smitty would be a part of the team going forward?  On a video on the site or in an Observer interview?

IF we continue to be good and have many many years in a row when we make the playoffs, then players will want to come here regardless of how DG would treat them... Look at Revis going to New England. He went to win, only, not to make a lot of dough or to have a good relationship with the management. Whether DG will bring us that success or not, I don't know, and as of right now I don't believe he will... But we will see.

In all honesty it's good for Steve to get out now. We are definitely not in a win-now-mode for the 2014 season, and he deserves to be with a team that gives him a chance of winning. It just burns me up and sickens me at HOW he was released, and not because he was released. 

 

We definitely have some negative karma coming our way. The players giving DG the finger and signing for other teams is just the tip of it. I'm ready to watch this dumpster fire in all its glory too. I fully believe you learn more in failure than you do in victory. I think this will be a great learning experience for us and hopefully DG.
