This is not on Gett.

Everyone keeps blaming Gettleman.  This is not his fault.  Blaming Gettleman for this mess is like blaming the street-sweepers toiling away each morning on Bourbon Street during Mardis Gras for the huge mess.

This is Hurney's mess.

When you rip off a big ass mutha-fvccn band-aid stuck on there for 5 years and reinforced with super glue, its gonna hurt a little.

We are bleeding now and damn near bleeding out but Gett's view is to get this roster right sooner than later.  You cannot do that by taking on more contracts that are not a part of your end game just because you fear the alternative.

Every single player that we have lost is a marginal difference maker at their very best.  The only one I wanted to keep out of any of them was Mitchell but we cannot pay him what others were willing to and still be viable in FA.

I don't want to get into just how ineffective players like Captain are in the grand scheme and just how ineffective players like Smith have become as of late because I know from reading over the years that most of you are way too emotionally attached to your heroes to tolerate ANYTHING negative being said about them.  That said, they all got overpaid in their new contracts.  Congrats to them.

Money is what it is all about.  The sooner the fans realize what everyone else involved with the NFL already knows, the better off they will be.

Smith leaving had NOTHING to do with the money.

Ginn? Mitchell? Sure.  But not Smitty.

Agreed.

His attitude and potential for distraction finally caught up with his waning talent.  As soon as "the grief" and "the great" became a push, he effectively punched his own ticket.

So you sacrifice wins just because one guy had an axe to grind? I hear the chemistry word being tossed around a lot. How do you think the players feel right now? When asked about why they turned it around from 1-3 guess who they give the credit to?

Steve would have been very productive in the slot, and probably would have taken a pay cut if asked. Instead one man decided to just cut ties, with no replacement in sight

The blame everything that happens on Hurney mentality is getting very played out.

It's only played out if you want it to support your opinion. Hurney's contracts has put us in cap hell that is taking a couple seasons to get out of. We signed a lot of 1 year contract players last season and now they signed contracts with others teams more than what they are worth. We have to create space for the next couple seasons so that we can finally breathe and that involves many tough decisions.

Yes it did. He was owed more than he would be worth in 2015 or 2016 if we kept him this year. A mod posted it somewhere.

Oh yes, which is why we didn't even try to restructure with him?  Come on, snap out of it, stop blaming Hurney.  Gettleman wanted Smith out.  Agree or disagree, it's the truth.

Then ask him to take a pay cut or cut him next year when you already have his replacement on the roster. This year we are paying him more than Baltimore is. Think about that with every td, first down, and ball spin. We're paying him to make plays for another team because of some phantom "distraction"

    • This was entertaining af lol. The Good thing is he’ll be making a bunch more crash out videos before the season ends.
    • I haven't seen much indication of a connection yet. He isn't lacking for targets. as he is the 2nd most targeted receiver on the team so far. He does have the 3rd highest QB Rating on targets, though. Behind only Chuba and Evans.
    • Shutting out the Falcons is still a uniter for the fanbase for the most part. It's just not in the way it used to be or what it once was for  multiple reasons. People who feel like they aren't seeing enough rejoice over it are missing the point. Instances like this would carry more weight if they were more frequent against our rivals for one. For two. This place also as has been noted before has taken on an echo chamber effect the last several years where all the losing has given way to factions of fans either fully apathetic or fully doubling and tripling down in defense of the powers that be and moves and decisions that have been made. And as a result from that the huddle has also moved to a distinct complete lack of outside views and chatter that in the past had been a source of change of pace entertainment and also more importantly a uniting force for fans here to rally around each other in opposition to. We used to have a number of Falcons fans visiting here over the years and driving home how much we dislike them. Same with the Saints. We even had some visiting Bucs fans from time to time. That's all long gone. Until we get back to instances like this becoming more commonplace nothing will change.
