Travelle Wharton not retiring

We've gotten so thoroughly sloppy if we're celebrating a journeyman free agent guard and below replacement level tackle saying he's not going to retire. This team is so bipolar. At our positions of strength, we're viciously strong. At our positions of weakness, we're incomparably weak. Our DE, DT, LB, QB units are so incredibly talented and our DB, WR, OL so devastatingly weak that it's annoying that we haven't course corrected.

A journeyman back up guard?  He's been a Panther his entire career other then one year he was with bengals.  He's hardly been a backup either.  Travelle's been a career starter.  So I think fans would be sad to see him go,  I think he's the the longest tenured Panther now.

He played OK last year...if anything Wharton is very valuable depth because he's played tackle and guard.

Bell/Wharton/Kalil/Silatolu/RT

Silatolu would be much better on the right side.  Wharton is already an established LG and the line play improved when he went in.  There might be some merit in the fact that Bell is left handed and would probably play better at LT than RT.  Physically he has all the tools to be successful so I am of the wait and see variety.

WHat some people may not remember about him is, He was drafted as a tackle. Later moved to LG. When with the panthers, anytime Gross went down they move Wharton to LT. If we do not have an answer at LT, he would be a band aid until we find one no more no less. However, he is a better LG than a LT. But I would still take him  over moving Bell to LT thats for damn sure.

Wharton is a Panther veteran that can start a LG and move to LT if needed.  At worst, he would add veteran depth on the line.  He needs to retire as a Panther.  He does whatever is asked and does not cause problems. That enough fo me.

Wharton is coming off of his best year for us, he graded out as the number 3 over all guard in the league, we NEED him back....that beiugn, said we NEEDED  lot of players back but obviously for whatever reasons that hasn't been on our mandate this off season os I am having some doubts that he res signs.  His camp just recently released some info saying that the Panthers haven't reached out or contacted him this offseason....smh

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
    • This is the Buc's division to lose.  We come out on top only if the wheels come off if Tampa.  I agree we can be--and should be--better than the Saints and likely the Falcons.  A 9-8 season would be nice, but it isn't great.  It's mediocre and that something the Panthers haven't been in nearly a decade, but would be reason to celebrate.  Heck, the Steelers will likely fire Tomlin over a 9-8 season because they are tired of being mediocre.
    • First game was a awful stat line. 2nd DNP due to ankle Summer league doesn't help what hes bring, its dang near YMCA pickup game level.  I heavily question the type of player he is and his future was NOT, not not not what you use #4 pick on. Hornets got him on visit and still made the pick, they better hope he has some Larry legend in him. I maintain huge questions.
