Our fans are the laughing stock of the NFL because we blindly follow a organization that has never had back to back winning seasons. And with a straight face, we defend them even when everyone else out the planet sees it for what it is.

Not because some kid made a petition. Just about every team in the NFL has some petition about wanting somebody fired. Go to other forums, they bitch and complain just as much as the huddle. Remember the falcons wanted their coach fired last year. That's just fans.

They laugh, because we walk around with our chest poked out like we've won something, it took a winning streak to make this team relevant last year and even then we still weren't respected. Why? Because we aren't consistent winners. But this fan base thinks we are the 9ers, we ain't the 9ers and honestly we are closer to the Browns.

They laugh because they see a playoff team with a young, once in a life time QB, and we want him to throw to Jerricho Cotchery. That's why they laugh, they pity us and if you weren't a Panther's fan you would too.

I've never understood the people who say "this is why we are the laughingstock of the NFL". Where does this even come from?

Seriously, this is the exact same with every fan base.  There will always be people who hate the GM/Coach(es)/QB and people who defend them.  People will always have knee-jerk reactions and make mountains out of molehills.  It's just part of sports fandom.  But in no way is the Panthers fanbase a "laughing stock".  I seriously doubt OP could find one instance of anyone other than a Panthers fan complaining about our fanbase.

They laugh at the contracts we gave Delhomme after a playoff meltdown, they laugh at the contracts we gave our oft injured RBs, they laugh at giving #1 WR money to a 35yr old #2 WR, they laughed at our drafts that included trading for Edwards and thinking Brown could replace Peppers. They laughed at Pep just walking away. And we defended it the whole time

Panthers fans are not made fun of for being cocky. I can guarantee you that. We're made fun of because we're bad fans. Because we allow EVERY team to walk into BoA and control our stadium. Because we aren't intelligent football fans. Because we aren't able to see the big picture. Because we all keep saying "Cam Newton is going to have to throw the ball to himself next year".  And definitely because we don't understand a formula to get to "sustained success".

I remember the calls and text I got the day Dwills contract was announced and then JStews! You know how I defended it?

With, "Football is a business that extends beyond the field and with the charity work Double Trouble did, they were making younger fans which would earn the franchise more money blah blah blah."

It was pathetic but it was the only leg I had to stand on! Hopefully I don't have to dream up any lame defenses anymore

No fan base sees the big picture, that's just fans. And as fans we don't have to agree with everything the team does. And if you spent sometime on other forums last year, yes I saw a lot of the "they're cocky for no reason" statements

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
