Lets be honest the only bad move Getts has made is releasing Smitty

Tagging Hardy is part of the big picture. Gettleman likely knew we'd have a young WR corp. this year and thus wanted to ensure the defense stayed very strong to compensate. Notice most of the guys we're looking at in FA have been cheap DB's. Gettleman understands that our front 7 was the real driving force behind 12-4 last year and wants to ensure it stays that way.

I'd rather have Hardy than Nicks, Jones, Mitchell, & Captain in the long run. None of those guys are long-term building blocks; Hardy is.

Cutting Smitty was not a bad move just by what Steve was saying in interviews. He said he wasn't a number 1 receiver anymore. Every receiver that has signed elsewhere has been paid as a 3. I find it just a tad bit funny that we played last year with 3 number 3 receivers. No wonder

Cam's numbers were down.

I see both sides of the Smitty situation. I love what Getts been doing only gonna make us a contender year after year instead of every 5 urs. Will also help us to start landing some top shelf FA when we have Cap room again. He also won't overpay which is great for long term success. Gettleman is good in my book & just how I stood by Rivera I'll stand by him for the next 2 to 3 yrs. Been right on other then Smitty which seemed more personal then business do for that don't agree with.

Yes, we payed a lot of cap money Not to have Smitty play here next year.

Getts should have figured another way.

Smitty is an icon. Look at the Dodgers as an example, they gave Fernando Valenzuela when he was done and wouldn't get shoulder surgery generous contracts when the rest of baseball didn't.

Occasionally an icon comes along that the fans deserve to see.

Moreso, Smitty still has some left in the tank as Getts will see in 2014.

I think getting rid of Lafell was a mistake.  Sometimes it takes a few seasons before a receiver starts to blowup.  Look at Jordy Nelson or Vincent Jackson.  It wasn't until their 4th season in the league before they hit the 1000 yard milestone, and their stats before that was very similar to Brandon's.  So who knows, maybe this season would have been Lafell's break out year.   Too late now.

Trading Beason for a 7th was Gettleman's worst move imo. Yeah, we weren't using him in the Mike and no one knew how he would come back from injury, but in retrospect that looks like a total steal for the Giants. Makes you wonder if Getts was trading favors giving them such a cupcake deal.

Getting rid of Smitty is a close second, I could understand if it were a cap thing, or if Smith were really playing that poorly. From everything I've heard though it was just a pissing contest- a showing the team who's in charge move. Five million in dead cap space and not having the greatest Panther ever, who could still be effective in the slot at the very least, does not seem worth having Cam and Luke take on more leadership and not having anyone criticize Mike Shula (God forbid).

the mistake gettleman made was not signing Nicks before he cut smith, I think he underestimated how beloved steve was around here and it made us look like a mess. now gettleman is trying to pick up the pieces and we get news articles about the long term plan and how mcnutt and king really diamonds.

    • The league would protect him.  The amount of poo Jerry Jones has had exposed and got away with?  The amount of poo Stephen Ross has got away with?  How long Dan Snyder got away with essentially fuging sex trafficking employees and poo???????  Taking down JR was a hit job.  You think the other 31 owners, especially the older ones aren’t blathering, blatant, ignorant ass, bigoted rich racists who have committed far worse things than Blue Jean Fridays?  The ones I named above have DEFINITELY did worse than what JR was accused of.  And do you think guys like Steve Smith would’ve been viewing him as a father figure if they felt that’s who he was?  JR pissed the league off with that last lockout situation and they made him pay.  They lined a new guy up to join their billionaire boys club in Tepper, and they prolly slid a pretty penny to Jonathan Jones to write the “expose,” to get JR out of here.  Again, all the owners I’ve listed above have been verified on record for doing worse poo, yet they’re still running their organizations, unquestioned.  They hand-picked Tepper long before JR was forced out, so he isn’t going anywhere.  Sadly.  fug the NFL.  (Also, to be clear, it’s always fug racism, bigotry, and sexual exploitation - not ever excusing it.  Just making the point that the NFL isn’t operating under this clear standard of justice applied to each and every case)
    • I was still in the throes of a contentious divorce and my job at the time had me work on Sundays.  At the beginning of the season I tried to still work around Sundays so I could see our games.  I think after Bryce came back from the benching, I said fug it.  First time in my life I intentionally didn’t watch our games, even through the Atlanta finale.  In the past, even if we didn’t live up to expectations, I would watch to still support and at least analyze player development, strengths and weaknesses, coaching, etc., but Bryce makes all of that a moot point, so I stopped watching. Again, this is asinine,  it if he is retained (still can’t believe this is even a possibility of a conversation due to how shitty our organization has become under Tepper), I will NOT watch next season until he is gone.
    • Live look at Bryce playing ping pong.
