Yes. One is about not going to a franchise because of how we "treat" our players. The other one is because we won't overpay or even underpay

Then the answer is both. People took notice of how we handled Smith and how much cap we have.

You make it sound as if Smitty were revered across the league and that isn't necessarily the case.  Everyone admired his fiery competitive nature but most everyone would not be that upset that we let a 35 receiver go elsewhere.  They understand the business part of the game.  How many 35 year old receivers are playing in the league right now?  Less than 4 or 5 I would guess.  Plus there are many teams with little cap. Conversely, sometimes the reason teams have 30 or 40 million in cap space is because they won't spend it.

Any smart DB will want to come here to do some image rehab.  Playing behind a dominant front 7 only makes their job easier, and improves their resume.

the ongoing saga of the NFL's own farm team getting players rehabbed to be called back up.

WRs?  What's that?

WR is short hand for 'wide receiver' with WRs being the plural form, meaning more than one wide receiver.  'Wide receiver' is the name for an offensive position in the game of american football.  The main responsibility of the wide receiver is to catch a forward pass from another player, usually the quarterback, thereby advancing the offense.  The adjective 'wide' refers to the position where the receiver lines up before the play starts, to the far left or far right side of the field.

35 in and of itself is not a reason. It is an excuse.it is a person not an age and the person can still play. The funny thing will be when the "young" WR's are no better and more will see it is the Offense that is the problem not the age or ability of the WR.

And if he were not declining and said himself that he wasn't a number 1 receiver that argument might have legs.  The reality is his cap space for us was 7 million rising to 10 million next year and 12 the year after while his skills are diminishing. That is number 1 money not number 3 money. Plus we really don't use a slot receiver like many teams do so there was little value in keeping him.  His cap for Baltimore will be half what it is here, so he is still a deal for them.  That is how the cap works and why guys get released all the time.

The young receivers don't have to be better as long as they are much cheaper.  That makes them a much better value which is the point.
