it's a business line is trash, there are a slew of company's that have workers that have work 10+ years for them and were treated 10times better then smitty

i understand some of you like gentleman alot and find this as a shot towards him, but it is what it is. if this truely is a business then he should have clearly saw this move would piss fans off, and these piss off fans are the ones who put money in his pocket. it's pure BS to think a guy who gave his all for this team would be treated so disrespectful, i just hope smitty knows as fans we couldn't do a thing about it to help..........

man fug going to TC this year

Hmmmmm!!!! If Smitty didn't value money then why did he let it be known he would not restructure or take a salary decrease to help our salary cap and enable us to sign other players, since he was 35 and admitted he was no longer a #1 WR?

I admit the Gettleman could/should have handled Smittys release better but the bottom line is, due to some reasons we may never know,we were going to trade or release him, no matter how much we sugar coated the situation..

where's the proof for this, smitty put on his personal instagram that he wasn't approach about this................

I didn't like the way it was handled either, but I'm not sure there would have been a good way to handle it when dealing with a personality like Smitty?

Zod's story makes perfect sense on that front.

Given his personality, the length of time he had been here and the deference he had received in the past, it's probably logical to believe that Smith thought of himself as untouchable.

If so, then he'd likely have taken a 'yeah right' approach to Gettleman's request. He may well have thought there was no way a guy who had only been here one year had enough pull to do anything to him.

And if that was the case then...well, he was obviously wrong

Steve was told last year to stop being a dick to other players. He didn't stop. It's not like he wasn't given a heads up.

I find it very odd that you are taking this sort of stance onthe issue. You of all people have been an avid fan if his for years, and yet here you are agreeing with why he's not here? I know it's probably not popular to challenge the one who runs this site, but I would have expected a bit more loyalty from someone of your stature.

I get the fact that he's gone, and it's best to just agree with the front office's devision to can him, but c'mon man. Do you really disagree with the way it was handled? He was indeed thrown out like trash. To me, after all he's sacrificed to be here with Jimmy Clausen as his QB for heavens sakes, he earned more than what he got in the end.

Id be interested in your response, if you'd be so kind to let us all in your mind. Keep in mind when you answer, that not even one player has come out in support if this move, and Ron Rivera has spoken out indirectly as to how this was handled. None the less, as the Panthers' camera man, I'd love for you to provide reasons for your opinion, other than the vanilla crap you just tried to feed us.

Time to move on..The Panthers made him a rich man and this bitching is probably one of the reasons he is gone(along with his salary next year). Smith had/has his issues and a chip on his shoulder so he can be hard to deal with I would imagine...it's in the past and let's leave it there

I'm sure zod knows a little more than the average person about what was going on behind closed door.

Yes, I believe his demeanor was why he was released. Yes, Smitty was encouraged to change it last year. Hell, Smitty was probably encouraged to change it every year. But this season two new factors came in to play. Gettleman and Smith's decline in production. Throw those two new ingredients into the mix and the result was different this season.

Whispers of his release had been around months before in the media room. Kelli Bartick even asked about it back in January at a presser. Everyone dismissed it but she was on to something.

This is not to say I agree with his release. I am going to take a wait and see approach on that front.

I definitely think his release was handled poorly and Steve deserved much better.

Steve is probably my favorite Panther of all time. But for him to act like he didn't know anything of this was happening is a bit disingenuous. He may have misjudged his importance and untouchability (as did i) but that's on him.

I still don't see why this stance is outrageous or causes such backlash.

Also, ever wonder why I don't say more of what I hear? Well, go back and read. Any time I do its "prove this, prove that, bs" nonsense. Come spend a week with me on the field, in the media room, in the pressers. Have weekly communications with the pr guys and other behind the scenes types. You just hear things. Just like you would at any company water cooler.

I had a coffee with Voth this week and some of the things he said matched up perfectly with what I heard last season. So, this is the conclusion I have settled on. Believe it, or don't. :)

I didn't know your last name was 'Ripley'

I have no trouble believing those things are true. Smith has always been like that one friend you have who you understand but who you have to apologize to everyone else for sometimes because he has a habit of rubbing other people the wrong way.
