Panthers meeting with Brandin Cooks

Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks has a meeting scheduled to visit with the Panthers.

Carolina, having recently lost wide receivers Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell to free agency, have a major need on the perimeter. Why not fill it with a prospect that many have compared to Smith himself? Cooks (5-foot-9 3/4, 185 pounds), a slot dynamo, put on a show at the combine, running a 4.33-second 40-yard dash. He's already visited with the Patriots. Cooks was asked whom he patterns his game after, and his answer should make Panthers' fans swoon. "Steve Smith, he's a great receiver and one of the best out there," Cooks said. "Being under six-foot, he's not one of the biggest receivers, but at the same time, he brings everything to the table that any other guy can. I definitely try to mold my game after a guy like that."

We need to accept the fact that there will never be another Steve Smith and simply take the best WR for the team and Cam Newton. If that's Cooks I'm on board but I have a feeling more prototypical big bodied WR's will be a better fit for Cam. We need more redzone targets.

    • Naw we are a few years away IMO.  I am not banking on the defensive pieces we added to put us in some playoff situation next season.   This defense was incredibly bad last year and it still needs more talent
    • I think in all honestly, the final 2 games are carrying most of the weight in a lot of Bryce talk IMO.    During the window where he "blew it out of the water" window......were a lot of games where he was not above average.  AZ is largely one of those stat sheet games.   Where the stat sheet reflects QB play that didn't exist in the game.  That game was all Chuba.  Meh vs Dallas.  Meh vs Philly.  Meh vs Giants.  Probably average vs Tampa, Den, Saints.  Bryce made HUGE strides vs what he was.  We should be happy.   But when you start comparing him to the rest of the league.....people I think are going too far.  His best aspect in reality.....is his scrambling.  And that's probably not a great thing give his size.
    • Mays and Zavala looked lost in the Reich offense.  Granted Zalava was probably playing too soon due to injuries but he looked terrible.  This new staff seems to be doing well with our OL.  I also wonder if having two vets in Hunt and Lewis just made life that much easier on whoever was/is playing center.
