Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Spoilers)

Growl

Recommended Posts

This is just a random grab bag of things I enjoyed and am leaving out any real analysis so of course I'm not mentioning all the things I enjoyed (finally a proper amount of shield bashing!)

Again... Spoilers...

-Fury off the grid indefinitely, as he is meant to be.

-Sharon Carter

-Baron Von Strucker cameo

-The Witch's cameo

-Doc Strange now an official part of the MCU

-WS fighting with the shield in a eery bit of possible foreshadowing

-Maria Hill actually starting to kinda sorta become more Maria Hill-like.

-Again, watching Cap smack people with his shield is just so satisfying, and the parkour was great too

-Zola becoming more Zola-ish in a nice twist I unfortunately had spoiled by a terrible review site.

Many other things, but these come to mind.

What is/are the Huddle's thoughts?

Also, my buddy said the twins in the final scene were Magneto's kids. That right? SO they are mixing mutants in the mix now?

Yep, but apparently due to Fox owning the X-Men rights, Marvel cannot use the term "mutants".  Instead they might be referred to as "gifted" or "born this way", according to the articles below.

Does this mean mutants will be introduced into the Marvel Movieverse? That's a pretty exciting development for us nerdy types; we've been kind of hoping for Fox to just give up the mutant license so Marvel can get it back, and while this isn't the first step towards that it is an indication that Kevin Feige et al aren't ruling out the possibility of one day having the X-Men. I don't know how well Feige plays with others (I hear not terribly well), but wouldn't it be kind of a masterstroke to share the actors playing Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch across studios?

Of course the characters may end not being mutants, or never referred to as mutants (they could just say they were 'born this way' and leave it at that). But Marvel has already done more than I imagined possible in the realm of superhero movies, so I'm being hopeful.

This week’s Agents of SHIELD made history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: it introduced mutants. Now, they’re not called mutants, as that moniker rests with the X-Men rights package to which Fox clings. But this week’s supercharacter, a guy who went by the name Scorch, was born with his powers, which began manifesting themselves when he was a young adult.

Mutant powers are a big deal. In superhero universes the stress of coming up with new origins all the time leads to a slowdown in character creation. Being born that way is a quick, easy and good excuse to introduce dozens of characters at a time without worrying about what sort of industrial accident, scientific accident or cooking accident gave them their abilities. With mutants (or gifted, as they seem to be known on SHIELD), you can just have a character show up and say “This is what I do!” and get on with the show.

I have no clue who most of those characters are, but I enjoyed the movie. Best super hero movie since the avengers. Much better than Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.

I find myself wikipeding the majority of these lesser-known characters, and realizing even more how awesome a job Marvel is doing with these movies.  This really is an awesome time for super-hero/comic fans.  I remember in the 90's when there was that made for TV X-Men series, and I was just thinking, "Why don't they just make these into big time movies?"  Well here we are, and it's badass.

I loved the new Captain America movie.  Right up there with The Avengers to me...not quite better because hey, there isn't Hulk, Iron Man, Loki, Thor etc.

But probably the best story yet in a comic movie.  My favorite scene was probably when Fury was getting attacked in his SUV.  It was thrilling and hilarious at the same time.  Nice to see Sam Jackson kicking butt.

Also I was suprised at how "violent" this movie was. Not gory, but damn there were a lot of people straight up murdered.  I liked it, because it made the film more "real world".

I really enjoyed the movie. It's right up there with Iron Man 1 and the Avengers. Great name dropping of other characters in the universe.

The worst part was seeing the TMNT trailer before the movie.

Oh and ScoJo is extremely hot as always.

Saw it tonight and loved it. I missed the Doc Strange mention tho. What point in the film did this happen?

Sent from my SPH-L710 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

It was when Redford was talking about taking people out that can stand in their way, like Cap, and then he said Stephen Strange (aka Doctor Strange).  I got giddy, Strange is a beast.  Also, that guy who got burnt up is Crossbones I believe, he'll be back and in his proper comic attire.

I loved the movie.  It's probably my favorite Marvel movie besides Avengers.  This was as much a spy movie as a superhero movie.  Scarlet finally got to play Widow and get more screen time, and she was great.    The fighting was amazing, those shield bashes and kicks were brutal and felt really Cap-like.   Shield bounces were great too.   The only thing that irked me was, you would assume Cap would hit up Tony Stark about what is going down, or Bruce Banner, but it was a Cap movie only so whatever.

It's also cool that this factors into the TV show and they'll go from here, and apparently the show is going to be much different now too.

Loved seeing Witch/Quicksilver.  Hate how Marvel doesn't have X-Men, Spiderman, or Fantastic Four rights.  At least First Class and the new X-Men are/should be good though. Spiderman is good too.  Fantastic Four reboot, who knows about that.  Mutants like someone said, are out, and even on Marvel Agents of Shield show they said they haven't even encountered people with telepathy yet, so that completely gets rid of Prof X and Jean Gray.

I just want to see a Secret Wars or Civil War movie(s) where all Marvel characters are in it, with X-Men and the others.  One day maybe.

Cap set the bar high for superhero movies this year, we'll see how X-Men/Spiderman/Guardians stacks up.  I'm excited though.

    • He’s set financially for life barring complete fiscal lunacy. He has $12.3 million guaranteed. Think about that. Twelve million three hundred thousand dollars, he’ll be 28 years old when his contract is up and he’s completely forgotten about if he never plays another down in the NFL if he so chooses. Say after taxes he ‘only’ brings home $6M (fire your accountant territory) and parks $4M in a run of the mill mutual fund… good God… What I’m getting at, IF homie ain’t feeling the NFL, he has 12,300,000 reasons to take the fewest NFL edition ass kickings as possible while waiting out his very wealthy non-football future.  Obviously completely talking out of my a$$ with this… but if you hated contact, didn’t want to live with a completely wrecked body for the rest of your life and you know you’re set financially… what path would you take, assuming you’re cool with being a quitter (not calling him a quitter, I’m just playing out a scenario)? Why do so many first rounders bust? Where was he before his one year wonder if he was such a stud?  Everybody likes the dude on a personal level. How could you not? …. but I like seeing a winning product even more. He doesn’t play like his head is in the game. The Why is where the speculation lies and helps to clarify if his issues are ‘fixable’ or not.

    • Very likely that he needs another season or two to really find his groove.  It very well may not be here where he has his best season. He’s a physical standout, but he can’t seem to get his focus and mentality right. That non-catch where he didn’t get his second foot in bounds was a truly awful display of this. Every professional in this game makes that catch.  Last week, it was clear that he wasn’t playing in top gear.  Like so many young people these days, he wants success without working hard.  He wants maximum reward for minimum effort. He wants to rest on talent. But talent alone won’t cut it.  The foolishness of youth and inexperience.  He can have it all if he wants it.  Seems like he’s content to be a social media star and a forgettable football player.
