With these one year deals won't we be in the same situation we were this year next year if these guys out perform their contracts.

No.

and yes.

We have some flex after this year in getting rid of huge contracts.  The problem is, that money is going to be mostly used

for Cam, Luke, and eventually Star.

This is why Getty values draft picks and won't trade up unless he's giving up a player to do so.

He feels he can find at least 5 players in each draft with 7 picks that can contribute with rookie contracts.

after 4 years of doing that, he feels he can choose who to re-sign or let go and keep the core players while

continuing drafting cheap effective players.

The hurt ain't over.  our rbs and des are very likely to get Smittied in the next year or 2.

You're always gonna have some 1-2 yr. rentals- older guys on the way out and young guys looking for a chance to catch on with a team that can provide more playing time than they've been getting. The key is getting the right guys that can help you, and not trying to hang onto 'em if they're aging or asking too much to resign. So far so good with Gettleman.

Gettleman seems unwilling to overpay role players, which in my opinion, is a good thing. He seems to be willing to throw money at pass rushers and in this league that's smart. I think he views WRs like he does safeties and CBs. When he says "touchdown scorers" he obviously doesn't mean that as "prototypical #1 WR."

I don't get people wanting to lock up borderline, fringe, support, etc. players.  The roster is 2 things--the core (the players you lock up) and the rest.  The rest of the roster is fluid--in a constant state of upgrade.  If one of those players signs a 1-year deal and they step up, the next team pays top dollar for them. If they suck, not much is guaranteed and you cut them.  We are looking for talent on a budget.

1-year deals are how you do that.

We won't be out of the mess Hurney made for us until AFTER the 2015 season. So yes we will be doing this again next offseason.

Run the numbers with projected salary of new contracts for Cam and Luke along with projected rise in salary cap. so we are looking at what for the 2 contracts around 27 to 30 mil combined? How does that stack up to the cap numbers we are waiting to get off the books?

Pretty good considering we will pay future HOF productive players instead of the opposite

so what number is that? We already have them and are in this situation. Giving them more and staying in the same cash strapped situation is not better it is the same with the money just being moved. That is not an improvement.

I don't know the numbers because I don't know what cam and keek will make. But what we will know for sure is that the money we spend will be well worth it.

We couldn't say the same years past
