Cam Newton: “I have to take more ownership of this offense and I will."

Was it his crutch or a hinderance?

crutch can refer to something that someone relies on that they don't really need.  In that way, yeah, it can be a hinderance.  We're going to find out if Cam is good enough make everyone else better a la P. Manning or Brady.  If he does, we're going to look back at smitty as a hinderance.

Steve Smith had a huge part in Cam Newton's success and we're about to see Cam's true colors as a leader.  His first two seasons Cam had Steve Smith still delivering 1000+ yard seasons.  While I expect Cam to step up and be the true leader of the offense, don't think he won't miss Steve's presence on the field.  Steve was that cocksure "give me the ball" type guy that every team needs at least one of.  4th and 10 in Miami says it all.

Steve smith was a cheap excuse..

You don't become a leader by eliminating the strong egos, they must be convinced.

This is the difference between a leader and a shepherd..

A leader will lead both the sheeps and the wolves.

Ummmm.... THE END US COMING!!!!

“No matter who or what the receivers look like, this is a team game. We all are (aware of) what has been done this offseason as far as acquisitions and trades and releases. But the fact is we have our team right now."

Sounds like a leader to me.  Take notes Deangelo.

Also I can't begin to describe how nauseating this notion that running Steve Smith out of town is suddenly the answer to our woes, and how one playoff appearance (one and done) in five years will suddenly turn into multiple championships because he isn't here to "hinder" anyone anymore.

Also like to add, this past season I think we saw the beginning of a great QB growing into a leader.  This year I expect him to cross into the upper echelon, if not then get very close.  As long as he keeps working and keeps his mindset and spirit strong the best is yet to come for us.  His freak raw athleticism combined with knowledge and competitiveness will lift this team to new heights.

Rumble young man, rumble.
