Why do people think Bryce Young won this game yesterday?
MechaZain replied to RumHam's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we have some revisionist around it here because of all the drama around Tepper's involvement. If you pull up any scouting report from the time you'll see the same take. WalterFootball's report sums up the media's thoughts on him well: "Young has everything the NFL is looking for in a quarterback except in terms of weight and height." He was the consensus top QB of his draft and the only real question mark they had about him was whether his body could hold up in the NFL. The infamous Steph Curry comparison the Panthers latched onto came from Albert Breer. The excuses I've heard for him are more anecdotal. Bryce Young's development is the only bullet point most NFL fans have on the Panthers right now. That and the coaching turnover. If you're not actually watching our games it's easy to believe this is just a dysfunctional organization that doesn't know how to unleash this talented Heisman winner. I've seen media and fans alike run with that narrative way more than criticizing Young outright. Whenever we win there's flocks who use it as proof that the Panthers just need to be patient. -
So maybe 1-3 vs playoff teams, going by standings as of today. I guess that is an improvement. We are just about improved enough to be in purgatory draft wise. It really isn’t so bad in the 1st unless you really want that top QB or maybe edge guy because there are usually plenty of good players at the top but it hurts you some as get deeper in the draft.

	Blind hate. Dramatic much?

Do you have any evidence of this? Literally the first article that pops up when you google Bryce Young right now is, "Insider says Bryce Young isn't going to be a superstar, but that's fine." Source Can you show me at least one source from a legitimate media rep that shows them building a mythos around Bryce Young? No media outlet is going to outright say Bryce sucks - he's a nice guy by all accounts. But I haven't seen anyone try and act like Bryce is anything more than he is. But maybe I'm wrong, and you can show me. And see, even me making this post will get me labeled a "Bryce Apologist", even though I have been out on him the last two seasons. -

It’s like saying Cam Newton didn’t win the monsoon game vs Jags or the 10-9 game vs the 49ers in 2013. Sometimes the qb makes enough plays to pull through. -

Why do we keep using this language? I really don't get it. Call me soft, that is okay. But it feels unnecessary. -
This was always the plan with Bryce. It shouldn't be controversial. Now he's just gotta get to where defenses fear his accuracy and it'll open up the field for Rico

It is entirely possible to defend your point without calling a bunch of people "tards". Bryce Young sucks. The vast majority of football fans acknowledge and accept this, especially on this site despite the very few who may argue otherwise, and even then, I find it is more in a "cut him some slack" kind of way and not a "he's the future of the team" kind of way. At the end of the day, if you look hard enough on the Internet, you are always going to find takes that drastically differ from what you perceive to be the truth. And nobody who's football opinion is worth listening to has argued Bryce Young is the MVP. Again, that is an example of you looking way too hard on Twitter, assuming that is something you have actually even read. -
	Bryce's Career To Date passing yards by games. Includes two games he did not start but played. 2023(179.8/GM) Less Than 100: 1 101-150: 4 151-200: 6 201-250: 4 251+: 1 2024(171.6/GM) Less Than 100: 3 101-150: 1 151-200: 3 201-250: 3 251+: 3 2025(173.8/GM) Less Than 100: 0 101-150: 4 151-200: 3 201-250: 0 251+: 1 Percentage of Games Less Than 100: 10.5% 101-150: 23.7% 151-200: 31.6% 201-250: 18.4% 251+: 13.2% So, in 2/3 of his career games played he is under 201 yards passing.

It works very well it’s just frustrating because it can win enough games to keep those three coaches employed even when they don’t innovate or ever make a decision that doesn’t come from a chart. If they weren’t so robotic in their decision making they’d be in the top tier of NFL coaches.

For Bryce’s obvious shortcomings (bad pun), there is upside to his game. This isn’t being a homer or apologists, but I like to consider myself fair in criticism. He’s far tougher than I ever thought he’d be. I really thought homie would have been broken in half by now. I don’t know how he’s not, but he’s not. He is prone to turning the ball over early in games which digs a huge hole the team is not built to come back from, but dude DOES come up with crucial first down in crucial situations. It’s NEVER pretty, but he just kind of has the shining. He gets bailed out LOTS, and the team still loses games because of him, but he’s a bit of an enigma. He’s a turnover machine that is clutch in big moments. He’s a smart/elusive cat. He kind of has to be with his limitations. His audibles are almost always correct and he understands coverages. I don’t see him getting fooled too frequently. His turnovers are almost never the ‘damnit Jake/Cam!’ brand we have been accustomed to. They are ALWAYS due to his size/strength limitations. Strip sacks that shouldn’t be. Picks that happened because he just don’t got that NFL arm. He is still prone to panicking and the wheels can and do fall off at a much higher rate than his peers. The team is winning on the backs of the defense, running game and special teams… but they’re winning, and unbelievably 1 game behind Tampa. As long as this is happening and Bryce doesn’t go full meltdown, Dave is going to keep him in. He is not getting pulled.

This was a terrible podcast. A bunch of uninformed homers that had worse takes than the bottom 10% of the Huddle. I listened to a handful of podcasts this past offseason in search of new Panthers material since John Ellis doesn't do his pod anymore and The 4 Man Rush don't either. Immediately deleted it after the handful I listened to. Truly terrible.

The NFC South was so bad it sent a team with a losing record to the Playoffs that year. Wilks had players playing hard at the end but let’s not act like that was a good season. That season hurts even more now that we see in hindsight how good our QB situation was. We just didn’t know it. -

I think there may be a difference of opinion of if limit / ceiling refers to typical games or the best possible outting by him. For some ceiling is meant in a career sense (what I think you mean) and others it's in a per game sense. I get both sides... if someone says game manager is a player's ceiling they don't mean they'll never possibly lead a team to victory on their shoulders ever, just not something consistent. But that isn't technically what ceiling refers to usually outside a sports players projections for a career
