The Athletic's "Undrafted Player to Watch"
kungfoodude replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
He just didn't fit with what we were attempting to do at the position. TBQH, he was an average to below average guy. Hence why Baltimore moved on. Sucks it didn't work out but we have been searching for The Guy since Kalil retired. Gross Search 2.0 -
Full honesty... I'd never even heard (or maybe more accurately noticed?) the Nalo nickname until after we drafted him and it's come up so much because people were asking him about nicknames. Arizona fans always just called him T-Mac the last few years and I have no recollection of ever seeing/hearing Nalo. If anything I saw it and didn't even realize who they were talking about or figured it was some auto correct so I just glossed over it without a second thought. So for me he'll always be T-Mac

PFF raves about our draft. The best class in the whole draft?
WhoKnows replied to Panthers Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
Last year’s draft was bad and we all pretty much knew it afterwards except the eternal optimists. This year’s draft was way better. It still hinges on TMac working out and actually getting edge production, but there were no obvious WTF did we take him over XYZ. This draft could end up great or bad, but it has actual potential. Last year’s was a it’ll be great if somehow we hit the lottery odds. -
NAS started following T-Mac or Nalo

Which one do we like better? For me it’s Nalo it’s more unique

Morgan looking for aa FA Free Safety
SetfreexX replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
You should go look up their coverage splits, Morgan also discusses it. Each has ample experience deep and in the box. What I like about both is that they will come up and knock your head off in run support. Let this FO do their thing; I think they've earned some grace this off-season. -
Morgan looking for aa FA Free Safety
Leeroy Jenkins Ph.D. replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tre'von Moehrig is a Free Safety. I don't know what yall thought we brought him here for. Tre'von Moehrig primarily plays Free Safety. During his college career at TCU, he was widely regarded as a prototypical free safety due to his coverage ability, range, and ball skills. In the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders, he has mostly lined up in a deep safety role, responsible for patrolling the back end of the defense, which fits the Free Safety profile. That said, the Raiders' defensive scheme under different coordinators has occasionally used Moehrig in versatile roles, but his primary designation remains Free Safety. -
Smitty is a legendary footballer player but this has really damaged his reputation as a person. You don’t cheat on a woman who has been with you through everything and gave you children and especially not with another man’s wife. He doesn’t even have any remorse about it, acting like nothing happened.

The Athletic's "Undrafted Player to Watch"
Panthers Rhule replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's a big ass center! Is there any center in the NFL that weighs 320 lbs? Also, we drafted a center last season. Not sure this guy is a center even if he took reps at the senior bowl. Looks like a guard to me unless his build is better suited to a lesser weight. In a zone scheme centers need to be able to move quickly. I just googled it and in 2023 the average was 306 lbs but the heaviest was 336 lbs so i guess it's possible. -
The majority of NFL draft picks don't play all too many snaps lined up directly across from another NFL player, and I don't think many people really realize this. Unless you play a game against one of the 2-4 schools that are putting half their lineup into the NFL each season, most teams who have multiple draft picks, MIGHT only have 2-4 draft picks in any given season. Some skill positions get around 30 players drafted each year, other positions are in the teens to low 20's. With at least a handful of them coming from non power conference schools too. So the odds for any WR or CB to get too many games lined up directly against another future draft pick is pretty low. The better odds are that they get lined up against a future NFL player, i.e. a junior or senior WR getting lined up against a freshman or sophomore DB who will get drafted in a couple of years. Then if you take it one step further and look for players who actually play in the NFL and make a difference. You're basically looking at players drafted in the first 3 rounds of the draft, so a little less than 100 players a year, spread out across all the positions and conferences (which in today's massive conferences, teams have even lower odds of player the teams with more NFL players than ever before).

I really had high hope that Bozeman would be that answer. Solid player and all-around good guy. Still looking... -

Eventually we will be forced to quit fuging around at center and find an actual long term solution. It's inevitable. -
This was also a weird draft because unless you were in the top 5, you weren't landing a blue-chip player. I think Dan handled it beautifully... got Tmac, the consensus best WR in the draft, 2 all SEC DE/OLB's, a solid SS, TE depth, RB depth, WR depth, NT depth (all positions of need). Hard to give it an A, IMO, because no 1 player wows me, but unless Carter dropped, no one was going to.

Did you see the texts? Did you listen to the recording of the call? I mean... If you want to just delusionally support your hero, cool. But the writing has been on the wall about who Smitty is off the field for a long time. Loved watching the guy play ball but he's a guy I have zero desire to meet and I'm done defending him.

The Athletic's "Undrafted Player to Watch"
Khyber53 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Center is such an important position and one that is way too downplayed. And while this guy is strong, has he got the brains to do the job? A smart center with a high football IQ to boot can make a QB's life much, much easier. -
And still, is there any proof that he even had the affair? There's money, but there's also the damage to a multiple decades marriage with kids that could be caused simply because someone lied to their spouse that they'd had an affair with a celebrity. I mean, we seem very, very ready to convict him of doing it on no actual proof. And that ain't right, for him or for anyone.

With Zavala and Mays' improvement last season, It'll be exciting to see how this guy adjusts to the NFL with our o-line coaches. With Mays and Corbett on 1 year contacts, we may be looking at him at center.
