So, Is Bryce Playing this Week or Nah?
ForJimmy replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
Dalton wasn't seen in Canales's offense. It was actually a first read offense design for him to get the ball out quickly. The Bears seemed to know what the first read was going to be a week later and Dalton completely poo the bed even with Chuba playing great. He look better the next week and completely awful against the Commanders after that. When you trot out a new QB it can throw off a defense (especially a bad defense in LV). Think Kyle Allen, Derek Anderson, All the Fitzmagic, Mike White with the Jets (new Panther shout out), Willis last year in GB, hell look at Flacco just ball out with the Bengals (do you think that will keep happening?) etc when they came in off the bench. Dalton's only lasted one game and poof the "magic" was gone. OL continuity is unfortunately just part of it. I'm not sure we have rolled out the same starting 5 all year. From Icky in week 1, to Moton in week 6, Lewis last week, plus Hunt/Corbs missing multiple weeks. -
I have never really talked about 30 yards bombs. But stretching a D beyond 20 matters and that's Young's biggest issue. Because that opens up the intermediate stuff....and NFL defenses have cheated the intermediate stuff the entire time he has been in the league. From week 1 of his rookie year through his 3rd season.

Speaking of revisiting trades: Brian Burns

Emotional just like a little kid because someone doesn’t agree with you . But I’m the idiot . That’s the huddle for you . Burns production is leading the league in sacks right now . You pay players mostly for what they can become not what they did . It’s not hard saying your wrong grown ups do it daily . -
Whose metrics are you using because he is nowhere near as bad as you are trying to impy? And that 3rd best rushing attack is a recent event, it wasn't there at the start of the season. And I would hardly boost about his receiver options given it consist of a cadre of rookies and UDFA's.

Im always ok with taking a good linebacker but the ones we have arent playing nearly as bad as people are thinking. -

I mean he got stepped on one play. I'm sure it hurt. He certainly looks fine. QBs have suited up all season w/ grade one ankles and looked worse off than Bryce during the week. Bryce didn't play well. He hasn't in most games this year. That's sort of overlooked with the record. . Canales really needs to find some direction when his 3rd season hits. I think he is using a dinged up ankle to get a look at things with a different style passer and where we are. I do not think any coaching staff has been all in on Bryce Young. We have seen examples of them not being every year thus far. They don't want him playing on that ankle. NFL QBs do that. And he certainly looks like he could do what so many have done this year. What we haven't see this year, is a more aggressive passer with probably the best cast to pull it off. -

Our organization would probably have a lot more success if we faced the reality in front of us rather than trying to mold it into what we'd like it to be. Play the hand you are dealt essentially. -

I agree with the AI of what we need in the next draft. MLB is my number 1 choice, with safety then center and o-line depth -

First reaction to that is what would he have done so out of the ordinary that film study would shut him down? He is the standard PA pocket QB. It wasn’t exotic or mysterious exactly. I don’t think his declining effectiveness was as much the film study as it was a combination of he can’t hold up to the hits and we lost AT in Vegas game I think and the rest of the WR was not that great and there some other shuffles that hurt the OL continuity. General issues that would have affected whoever was playing. It seemed to degrade by the week. Without going back and verifying anything to refresh the memory that is what I’ve got. -

Our whole identity is pretending the past didn't happen. This is par for the course. -

So we are just pretending like Dalton’s games against the Bears and Commanders didn’t happen immediately after they had one game of film of him in our offense? Chuba was averaging 7.5 yards a carry that Bears game and Dalton still played horribly. -
I think we saw his ceiling vs Dallas. He played well the whole game and did what he does. He did less, but there can be degrees of more throwing but I don’t think it gets better in terms of his capabilities than that game. That is the peak. But PS, that was a bad defense. What happens against good ones?

I think we had personnel tells as well. I like the 12 grouping for us right now because it doesn’t give away as much in that regard IMO.

Except It being nothing doesn’t square with the taking him from the game last week though. Something happened. Maybe the normal over protectiveness last week did allow a crack in the door to stick Andy’s foot in. I took so much absolute poo last week for saying that the two times Andy came in in week three were noticeably different, but it was true. You don’t need stats to help you see it. The offensive thing comes down to protecting him and is his arm still limber. If both of those things cooperate I expect to see a repeat of what happened in Seattle 2023 Las Vegas 2024 as far as how the offense looks. We have more talent around the QB now also. -
The Panthers have all of the lack of deep passes without the threat of deep passes
-
If it's even remotely true it's one hell of a tell. He immediately starts to roll out or scramble, stay honest. Standard drop back, no deep ball, red zone D.

Good point…I personally think probably the #1 factor on whether these young QBs succeed early on is where they go and who they have around them. Bryce has clearly shown me that physical stature and arm talent is very important as well as it’s clear he has limitations there. Whether or not to pay him long term is such a dicey decision to me cuz he is still young and improving but his ceiling is pretty damn concerning.

We challenged the goal and lost didn’t we?
-
And there is always the good chance it won’t be a rocket and you can maybe recover in time to re engage. As I typed the they have respect it, the oddsmakers were in the back of my mind saying well… you know the statistics on that may say otherwise
-
That was the only justification to draft him. The tree of offense. And they drafted him for that and they got rid of Bryce 2 games in…… there was a plan. the comeback from the dead wasn’t part of it. Bryce doesn’t fit the plan.
