I don't think it is so much how he played as that they are cash strapped with the current roster. See, Hendrickson, Trey.
-
Was a non issue a month ago and still is.

We'll see what happens. I bet most of the 2nd rounders will get big guarantees and that percentage will continue to go up year after year and then it'll be the 3rd rounders up next.

Off Topic: Remember Ron Rivera on "All or Nothing"?

Remember when James Anderson didn't like Ron cursing? -
I have heard he did not do so well last season and the Bengals fans were happy to be rid of him for what it's worth. Said he looked slow.
-
Well, he's already guaranteed to be a self-appointed captain of the team 8 times next season.
-
I met him after a game on my 16th birthday. He stopped and signed for maybe three people total, and I was one of the lucky ones. Didn't say much, I said "thank you," and he nodded and walked off.

Well, he would immediately be the best LB on the roster. Buuuut....he really doesn't fit the profile of what we seem to be doing. We are avoiding these older players and seem to be very attached to a youth movement.
-
I mean, if you literally walk down the starters for that team versus ours, it's fuging embarrassing. Then when you get to the backups, it's WAY more obvious. There is a reason we were largely regarded as the worst roster. It was very earned.
-
I have to disagree with you on this. Outside of Nabors, there is not a single player on the Giants offense that I would want to start in place of our starters. Their dline is decent, but the rest of the team is not good at all. I might take Gano back. There is a reason both of those teams drafted ahead of us, they needed to revamp their talent.

Just go head hunting at this point. Who fuging cares if you get a game misconduct or even a suspension. It will be worth it. -

Florida has some mystical juju -
This makes too much sense not to happen.

I'm not expecting it to happen, but we definitely need an upgrade at LB. He fits the bill for sure

No, you're just flat out not comprehending what is going on, because if it was really how you think, more than only the first 2 players taken in the round would be signed right now. Enough teams would just say screw it, it's not worth fighting with the agent over such a relatively low guaranteed cap hit. Your point about teams being afraid of spending that draft capital and not getting the player signed is also just asinine on the surface. Because yes, the teams want to make sure the draft capital they used is on the field for them, but 2nd rounders fail more than they succeed in general. If one holds out to try and re-enter the draft after a year off of football, they're tanking their career before it ever gets started and will fall further in that draft too. Teams expect their 1st rounders to pan out, but they just hope their 2nd rounders do, it's why the pressure is on the team to sign a 1st rounder, but it's why the players have so much more to lose by holding out than the teams do for anyone after the 1st round. It's 100% about precedent, that's literally the only thing driving this right now, on both sides. Again, if half the teams had signed them, or even a third of them, you might have a leg to stand on. But it's clear this has nothing to do with agent/team leverage at this point, it's about both sides trying to set a new precedent for contracts, and I don't see the agents winning this one on the whole. Maybe a few more end up getting it, but I'd bet at least 20 of the 2nd round picks do NOT get a fully guaranteed contract.

Ideally my top 4 as well, but XL needs to prove himself to be a reliable target. I genuinely like the dude. His ceiling is stupid high.

I meant to type more my bad…. first and main reason we’re probably trying to add him his pff scores are high very high. Being that we value that much more nowadays I know he’s on our radar. His run stopping grades were like the highest of all LBs. That would have given us top graded plates at all three levels Brown then Pratt with JC and Moehrig were definitely stopping the run this year with these monsters fully healthy. I hope we dangling some of that Clowney money at him we need him to solidify our defense. add in the NC ties and we should be in play got his services

You're not even reading what I'm saying you're just ranting. It has everything to do with draft pick value vs. cap space impact. The agent knows he's holding significant draft capital over the GM's head vs. minimal cap impact. Not everyone is geared like Dave Gettleman where literally everything boils down to a dick measuring contest. History indicates the agents progressively whittle away and win the battle vs. the GMs on the rookie contracts. Hell, we have an owner throwing out typical 6th rounder guarantees at UDFAs just to secure them. He's not sweating pennies on the dollar against the cap or trying to protect his precious wallet. It's the one thing I do appreciate about Tepper. The man will spend to try to win. Being cheap hasn't been our issue.

I would LOVE to have the talent that Oakland and NY(Giants) have. They were/are WAAAAAY better rosters. I think we will finally crawl out of that "worst" spot this season, even as a massive sceptic. We need it.
-
This addition would add so dam much to our current roster. It’s like the real missing piece.
-
For me I would rather see Tmac, XL, Coker, JT as the top 4 with Thielen not relied on as much as this is probably his last season. He is basically a catch the ball fall down type of guy which contradicts with Bryces playstyle of distributing to allow YAC. We should have enough WR talent to keep him on limited snaps.
-
Oh it was bad and we had no depth so the injuries just crushed us. Eh we split with the other two bad teams in our division. Still beat the Cards, Raiders (who might have the worst roster), and NYG (who had a pretty bad roster). Our OL and RB were solid. Honestly our defense had no depth and a ton of injuries. Hopefully just being healthy can give them a nice boost. It can’t get much worse lol.

Agreed. Our coaches were better than some of the other dumpster fire teams and we played in the NFC South. That helped. Outside that, a simple look at the roster will very quickly reveal it to be the worst in Panthers franchise history. That was obvious before we had even played a game. It was funny that people were surprised we had a historically bad defense. It was so insanely obvious.

I take the T Mac, Horn Jr, and Renfrow additions as a direct shot over the bow when discussing XL. 1 year of dropsies and he finds himself automatically downgraded to WR2, at best, with the t Mac selection. I really hope he understands the gravity of this. Barring unforeseen circumstances, T Mac will play all but a handful of snaps at WR1. Thielen will be on the field on all third downs, at least. guarantee. Coker will get a ton of snaps. He is just too good to be parked on the bench. JHJ will make the final 53. They will like him returning punts and kicks. He’s has good hands and elite game speed. Dan still can’t bring himself to watch the SB from 22 years ago. How well do y’all think XL’s 3 drops on the final drive of the Eagles game went over? Dan is as serious as a heart attack when it comes to winning and losing. I don’t see him waiting patiently with developing XL if he is killing drives and/or costing the team games. Look no further than Ginn’s career to see what happens to first rounders with suspect hands. I’m crazy, yes, but I do think that if Coker comes on, T Mac is who we hope he is and XL has another year of dropsies, he may end up as trade bait. Coker is going to continue to up his already impressive game. I don’t think anyone will argue that. He has a chip. JHJ has a chip. Thielen is Mr first down. XL better show growth. I just don’t see Dan as the type who is patient with projects.

Sounds like the knee is cooked. Wish him the best though
