Yeah many NBA players are streaky now. We've had plenty of those here. For Kon it's too early to say but based on what I've seen and his interviews I think if he wants to be really good or great and to get to the highest level he will. Of course that's the story of many of our players over the years. The talent is there. The desire to be great wasn't. We'll see if these new rookie additions have that in them. Hopefully. But it is the Hornets after all. The skepticism is valid. As far as Gordon Hayward. I can say without a doubt that he never wanted to be good or great. He was one of the many newer generations of players that have the prerequisite talent and want the money and allure of being an athlete but do not care one way or another if they win or lose.

Not if just giving a bigger signing bonus but the same guaranteed number, as that’s still part of the guaranteed money that they can space out for future cap hits. Guaranteeing more money is what affects the cap space. The amount of a signing bonus is only about how big of a check the owner has to cut once it’s signed (at least I’m 99% sure that’s the case) -
There's a spectrum like in all things. But honestly by and large vets aren't making the type of money most people assume they are. Most of them have a poo ton of student loans and running a clinic isn't cheap with the rent, utilities, staffing, etc.

My reaction when I see opposing fans chalk up Carolina as a free win for them in the upcoming season

Cap accounting and actual cash paid are not the same thing. The league could figure it out if they wanted to. -
That's a much fairer point worth exploring as opposed to seemingly blaming him for producing more than what a team would usually want from a 34yr old WR. It also allows us to look at who was available then as well: The same season AT was brought in the team experimented with DJ Chark as the X. Would they have been better forgoing both players and signing Nuk for $13M/2yrs? Maybe... but I don't think that exactly changes anything about the final results at the end of the season. In fact, looking at who was signed (and for how much) makes the AT deal look even better in hindsight. $8.3M avg for a dependable, veteran slot... especially when also looking at this most recent free agency: Yea, the previous front offices whiffed horribly on building the WR room. Marty Hurney and Scott Fitterer did horrible jobs there. However, this is a different GM, HC, OC, etc. The HC + OC are WR coaches. If there's a time for the team to go young and develop, it's now imo.

Wonder if this gets any movement on Shough's deal like @Basbear mentioned earlier. -
Yes, remind us all how patient you are with rookies by giving up on them after just one season instead of during the offseason. No idea what Adam Thielen has to do with any of this, but go off?

For anyone in this thread mentioning Tepper, owners, or billionaires, they really have nothing to do with this. More guaranteed money doesn't mean the owners pay more. It just means, if they get cut we get dead cap and someone else gets paid less than they would have if we had the cap space. I think the only way owners can truly save themselves money when it comes to players is either by keeping the team well below the cap, but I don't see any teams operating at the cap minimum. Either that, or offset language if a player gets picked up by someone else. But even then, that just opens more cap to be spent on different players instead. -
Yea still think we could have taken a flyer on a QB seeing some of the names that were not drafted till late. Bryce played much better after he was benched and came back

Took my cat in for a routine vaccine today. One shot. Bill came to $46. They charge $19 for the appointment, $7.00 to dispose of the needle ( supposedly a biohazard) and $20 for the actual shot. All performed by a vet helper. And from what I hear talking with other folks in my area other vets are charging similar prices. Really pricing folks out of being able to afford to have a pet let alone more than one.

Wild Idea.. Trade for Shemar Stewart

why is the world would the bengals trade him? -
How is he catching 77% of his targets? How is it his fault that he's being asked to carry more of a burden than he should be at this point in his career. I already said it was a result of poor roster building. But for people to be mad about Adam Thielen for this is just misplaced. Don't be mad about an aging veteran signed to be a steady presence, mentor, and probably #3 option at WR on the field for not being a stellar #1.
-
If Thielen’s mentorship leads to XL being a reliable pass catcher, it will be worth every penny of his contract. Ask yourself this, who else is going to help him? It’s a crowded room and every WR is fighting for play time. They don’t play this game for funsies. There is serious $ on the line for these dudes. They can’t afford to be buried on the roster come contract #2 time. This is their shot. I’m not saying the intentions are nefarious, but there is contract money riding on play time for these dudes. Coker has #2 square is his sights. better believe that. Why would he help XL? Would you? Moore? Nah. JAG. Horn knows he’s a fringe WR. He used to hustle neighborhood kids in to racing growing up. I don’t see him being the helping kind. Hunter? He’ going to be too busy battling Coker for the #3 spot. There is literally no better person for the mentor role for XL than Thielen.

but...isn't that sort of highlighting WHY we are moaning about AT? Right now our primary weapon (based on offensive reps, targets, etc) is an old slow WR who we overpay that doesn't really get open nor do anything with the ball in his hands. and we are at the bottom in spending in terms of pass catchers. Maybe the front office shouldn't of arranged the roster so that it is only .....AT (debating retirement) and cast of unproven hopefuls youngsters. I mean, the AT complaint is really not about AT. It's about the front office.

I'm encouraged and confident the Panthers won't be the worst team in the NFL next year.

Yea its iffy. It would be difficult to implement without moving to a soft cap/luxury tax model like NBA and MLB. NHL pulled off guaranteed contracts with a hard cap, but I don't think that's realistic outside the NHL. I don't think a luxury tax model would be good for the product, even if its good for the players. Even though we would probably benefit from it because Tepper would be like the dude who owns the NY Mets now. -
