  1. Past hour
  2. One year incentive heavy deal to not impact the future, to come home and try to cash in next year, why not? Don't offer anything crazy, but at least throw in an offer. He's Horn insurance, Horn is Jaire insurance, if they're both on the field we're thrilled. If the season isn't going well, trade him to a contender mid-year and get a draft pick for our troubles.
  3. I was going to post something very similar, BUT I expect our front 7 on D to make a jump similar to the one our o-line made last year. 1. Brown is back after missing all of last year. In 2023 he was 1 of the best at his position. 2. Wharton and BB3 are solid players who are NFL caliber starters. 3. Jones is very good pick up; 26 yo and coming off a 7 sack season. Add to that we spent 2 high draft picks on Scourton & Umanmielen. Unproven in the NFL, but the our staff felt good enough about them to cut Clowney who was our best OLB last year (sadly).
  4. Bravo! I certainly don't know how guys think that we're going to "stink" this year. I'm not saying that we won't, but the DBs were ranked in the low 20s as a unit (according to Chat), so I don't easily see us getting any worse; we should be better. The D-line improvement should help the backfield out a lot, and Jackson and Horn know what they're doing. The older vets we acquired shouldn't take too long to make their presence felt, and we have a couple of promising youngsters in Smith-Wade and Ransom. How do we not make at least a slight to modest improvement from last year?
  5. Morgan and company will definitely be in on this, not sure if we actually sign him but we will likely see reports come out with us showing interest.
  6. He grew up in Charlotte. Not sure if that'd be a thing or not - but worth noting.
  7. We already have the role of "elite big money CB who rarely sees the field" covered.
  8. All the Florida fans I know thought he was terrible. When he went 4th, it was pretty shocking. When healthy he’s a solid fantasy QB, not an NFL one. Some might point to his starting record as 8-7, but if you dig in a little bit it’s almost comical: When Richardson has 12 or less passes (i.e. he got hurt in game): Colts 4-0 (2 of 4 wins were playoff teams) When Richardson plays the game (19 to 38 passes): Colts 4-7 (0 of 4 wins were playoff teams)
  9. I definitely wouldn’t want to pay him long-term money with his inability to get on the field. I’m not sure if we’re good enough to start picking up vets on prove-it deals where they have all the upside, but I wouldn’t hate seeing what Evero’s defense looks like with some real players on it. Feels like we’re not going to get that answer again this year given how young the main edge rushers are and how thin we are at corner.
  10. Today
  11. If we are going to make a move at CB it will probably be around the time teams are cutting down to 53. That's when we will likely sign someone. After all, it wasn't until the end of August when we acquired Mike Jackson last year. I'd be on the lookout for a similar move especially if there's an injury.
  12. Fully guaranteed contracts for rooks outside of the top 10 or so is ridiculous and even that is reaching.
  13. I mean I almost feel like we have to at least make an offer. Unless he's asking insane money it's worth a shot. Granted, we'd have the most fragile pair of Pro Bowl corners of all time, but they'd be sick when healthy.
  14. Maybe an answer to our CB problems? Or too risky with injury history? https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/packers-to-reportedly-release-two-time-pro-bowl-cornerback-jaire-alexander-121246164.html
  15. I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew 5) Akayleb Evans Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides. Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
  16. Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
  17. They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
  18. Except it wouldn't be Rodgers leading them on a postseason run, it would be the defense and he's there to not screw up their great games. Which is why..... This times a million. I didn't watch a ton of the Jets last year, but from what I did see, Rodgers himself didn't look like a bum, the team just struggled and was more than likely due to poor coaching on the whole. The Steelers don't need MVP level Rodgers to win games, they just need him to be good enough to make some plays when it matters because the defense is keeping them in games every week regardless. In their 7 losses last season, the Steelers scored 10, 13, 17, 17, 17, 19, and 24... while giving up 19, 20, 24, 27, 27, 29, and 34 in those games. With only marginally better offense last year, they probably end up winning a few more games too. They only scored over 27 points in 3 games last season. I think this is a great move by the Steelers and if Rodgers can stay healthy all year, will get them back into the playoffs and could make some noise if their defense is up to the normal level of a Steelers defense.
  19. I hope we are as improved as a lot of fans are hoping. However, this time of year everyone in the league thinks they have improved. It will be interesting.
  20. How many new starters will we have on defense? That could be a good thing given how bad the D was last year, but it could also take some time for them to gel.
  21. Too bad swearing didn’t help then not get their asses beat in the second half.
  22. Yesterday
  23. The Running back group imo, should be very good. Oline is probably the best we have had since the roided up first SB run. Wide Receiver group is interesting. Main questions on offense are can Young continue to play as he did in the last 6 or so games. And how good are the TE's. On defense, its a little more suspect, but we certainly could be better than last year.
  24. It's very few proven commodities and heavy on "what if." I am not suggesting it isn't POSSIBLE we are a halfway decent roster but I also don't think it's very likely. Underwhelming is fine and understandable. I just don't want to see dumpster fire again.
  25. Not sure we have a bad roster. It has been almost completely rebuilt from two seasons ago. Will take about 8-10 games to see if its significantly better. That being said, with the CAP and the high cost of QB's even SB teams have weaknesses at a few spots.
