Those stats are skewed by a few early games where the run defense actually worked.

Run defense is going to be absolute ass

Robbie/y on I Am Athlete podcast speaking on Sam & Baker
hepcat replied to Mills's topic in Carolina Panthers
I haven't listened, how much editing was done to Robbie's statement to make that a coherent sentence? -
100% agree that Brady was the bigger mistake than signing Teddy but without Brady I doubt Teddy is a Panther. But cutting Cam without a legit plan for a long term replacement was also a huge mistake

He was probably going to hold out in Cleveland, get fined, wouldn’t make his salary, etc. Browns weren’t going to cut him because if he got cut the Browns would be eating way more of a cap hit. Baker still got ~78% of his salary and the Browns didn’t take a $19m cap hit. Him taking a pay cut had to happen otherwise both he and the browns were in a no win situation. Seemed like a pretty solid deal all around. -

Y’all the Browns paid him $10m to be traded. He didn’t take a pay cut he’s getting that money. -

I'm sure they had issues, might not have been big enough to make it to the sports tabloids though. He had an alcohol related arrest while at OU and certainly pissed off some teammates and coaches with his behavior on and off the field. Baker almost got suspended a few times for generally being a douche. -
Jake had as many game winning drives in his first season as a starter for the Panthers than Mayfield has in his entire career so far
-
Bro Delhomme was fire with the game on the line in the 4th quarter and Mayfield is absolutely garbage with the game on the line it’s the worst comparison ever made

Rivera at least knew how to build a defense. What does Matt Rhule know how to do?

You have no idea man, people are pooing me on this board because I really don't like that guy but I've lived in Austin for 11+ years and I know several people who've met/known the dude personally. There's a reason why he can't stick in one place for long. There's a reason why the Panthers own staff was split on trading for him. There's a reason he has a TON of haters. I just don't know how much evidence people need to see this wasn't that great of an idea. Even at the low low price they got him for, he comes with a ton of baggage that could turn a rough season into an absolute pit of hell. Wish the Panthers had just stuck with Darnold who at least as a person I don't dislike. He's a garbage QB but at least as a person you can just be like oh well, and move on. If Mayfield plays poorly you fall back on the fact he's also a complete douchebag and it really gets your blood boiling, coaches are going to throw him under the bus just like Stefanski, it's going to be ugly. I'm just really sad about what the Panthers have devolved into since Tepper bought the team. It's such a mess and I really don't like that guy. I'm very glad Austin FC beat his sorry ass soccer team too.

I know, they were never going to tank properly. I thought they should have forced Rhule to live or die by Sam Darnold since they traded to get him, and picked up his $19m option despite never playing a down for the team. They hitched their wagon to the guy. Now they realized they f*cked up and were able to buy low on Baker Mayfield who comes to the Panthers with a heap of his own garbage to sort through. It's a mess, and Mayfield honestly makes it more of a mess than if they never had him at all. -
Baylor football was going to come back no matter what, too much $$$ in that program to stay down long.

Joe Brady was always going to be a disaster hire due to his lack of experience. The Panthers coaching staff the last 2 seasons was probably had the least amount of collective NFL experience. It took them two 5 win seasons to think oh maybe we should get some more experienced minds in here. That's pretty embarrassing if you ask me. I'm glad a guy like Steve Wilks is back to be an adult in the room but it just too little too late.

Insight into the broken relationship between the Browns and Mayfield
hepcat replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well to be honest Mr. Scot there's a lot to be critical about. The Browns are the Browns, granted, but Mayfield has issues with coaches everywhere he goes. Sweet, sounds exactly like Teddy. No surprise here. If he was a cool dude who didn't always piss people off everywhere he went, he might be viewed more favorably despite his limitations as a QB. But he polarizes a locker room and coaching staff (there were reports the Panthers staff was split on whether to trade for him at all) and that's one of the main reasons no one wanted to trade for him. He hasn't changed anywhere he's been. He's the same brat he's always been. I get why they made the trade and I'm happy they didn't give up a of assets to do it, it's just a sad state of affairs to be at the point we're at right now. I never wanted Mayfield. The Panthers should have never gotten to this point of desperation to be taking in rejects from across the league. I wanted them to suck it up and play Darnold and get Matt Corral on the field even if he wasn't ready. At least tank the right way and get a top 3 draft pick to get a new franchise QB and hopefully a competent coaching staff next year. There are some talented players on the roster, but this haphazardly slapped together team won't work and I think we all know it deep down. If the Panthers magically make the playoffs with Baker Mayfield I'll shut my mouth and never be negative again. But I have a really good sense of these things and I have a feeling it's going to explode in spectacular fashion and the Panthers are a soap opera all season, amidst many losses. -
Darnold's problem is between the ears. He has every ounce of physical ability to be a great QB. He's like the anti-Tom Brady.

lol first of all herpcat hahaha! says the guy who still to this day has a username of a qb prospect who will never play for the Panthers that's also spelled incorrectly. Anyway you talk about the guy like he's grown up but he hasn't changed at all. Mayfield perpetuates the UT hate to this day and cries all the freaking time. He has "weighed in" on doing horns down many times over the last year. He was talking trash about Sam Ehlinger even after he reached the pros. It took Sam's Ehlinger's brother dying for Mayfield to act like a normal human to him. Maybe now Mayfield will be more humbled because Cleveland was so eager to replace him by giving up 3 first round picks for an accused sexual predator with dozens of lawsuits pending who likely WON'T EVEN PLAY THIS SEASON and paid $10m to get rid of him. Ok let's be excited about that guy. Steve Smith said it best. "“He wears his emotions on his sleeve. I do, too. I was an emotional player. But the difference between Baker and I is one, I won the triple crown — I led the league in something besides crying.”

we got 2 QBs we know suck and 1 that we don't. Oh no lol let's not hope for playing time for the guy we don't know if he sucks yet lol

Joe Person and The 33rd Team break down the Mayfield trade
hepcat replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I love Steve, he was spot on in his commentary about Faker -
The bar for Rhule to keep his job should be making the playoffs. But I'm ready and honestly expecting a 2 win season so the team can be properly blown up and a staff that has an actual plan for success can be brought in.
