This team won’t compete for 2-3 years. And even two years is still basically three seasons from now. Trade CMC. It makes sense from all angles and this is coming from someone who has been against it until now. If you can’t find a RB to help out your young QB your problem is your GM.

I am not speaking to any hypotheticals or off-season or preseason. I don’t want to convince myself who is king of the trash pile, no need to because they both suck. But Baker is god awful behind a FAR superior oline and with CMC as a weapon. From what I’ve seen Baker is absolutely hot garbage and doesn’t even have hold my beer moments with a far superior team. Baker on last years’ team would be just as if not worse than Darnold, unless you think his QBR would increase without cmc and a worse oline.

I like Stroud but admittedly not a huge college guy. Just watch when I can and read. I am also optimistic we won’t be the modern Browns and won’t pick so high every year so it’s the best time to get the franchise guy in a deep draft. Unlike past years I do believe this coming draft will produce a franchise QB, whomever that may be. I also know worthwhile qbs AND coaches have flat out declined to play or interview with this franchise. Drafting a qb is the only way up. Draft is the draft, you can never be 100%. But you take your shots on the best of what you know, and the best of what we know is Stroud appears to be a solid choice compared to what I’ve seen in past drafts, and just in general. Darnold would be an average backup behind a good line. However, unlike fanboys here, I think Corral’s ceiling is a serviceable backup so ultimately that spot is already taken.

Darnold has identical stats as Baker with he worst oline in the NFL and no CMC. Plus his rushing numbers look better. Believe it or not from what we’ve seen of Baker so far, Darnold is actually better and awful as he is.

Being the worst team isn’t the problem. It’s morphing into being the worst franchise that you should truly be scared of. Huge, huge difference. Guys the picks don’t matter, the cap we cleared is a HUGE plus. Especially for a new coach. This was a win…I guess…a win from ourselves, we never should have have him that dumbass contract.

You’re not understanding it because you don’t appear to be considering the cap. It isn’t looking great. Money was spent on sub par players like Anderson and Thomas. Shaq’s contract makes me want to vomit. DJ is a mediocre contract but if his motivation falls anymore off a cliff it will turn to bad. And that’s likely, You have to consider the future, and in saying that you have to realize when getting a pick is better than having to let a player walk. Historically, the Panthers have been god awful at realizing this. And historically the Panthers are a bad team. However if you look at other teams, keeping a healthy cap by making solid moves before forced by hand and then being able to sign the RIGHT players/pieces at will (Bills) are signs of a proper rebuild, and not being stuck. Sometimes hard choices need to be made, you hate to see it, but you see it all over the NFL all the time. You can’t sign Chinn, Brown, and Burns…you just can’t. You need to consider timing. However ideally the new coach and his vision/plan should big a huge factor, only problem is 5th year options and/or pissing a player off not paying them when you’re trying to figure things out and you risk letting them walk. Tag and trade is always an option but you then basically waste your tag and makes trade talks more difficult. So yea, it’s not just about the player.

Your new coaching regimen is going to like a high pick and a healthy cap otherwise not only do you not attract the best but they’re set up for failure. We also need LBs and contrary to popular option we need WRs. Also will need a decent RB after CMC. Time and time again it’s said you try and compete years 3-5 of a rookie QB contract, ideally.
