  1. I think this is a reasonable assessment. But with Burns many people are only looking at what he doesn’t have or bring to the table. I think the naysayers should be looking at what you lose if you don’t sign him. Maybe not perfect but you can’t go to the Defensive End store and get someone with all those superlatives gift wrapped to plug into a roster. It’s not settling or overpaying it’s just what the market is for current elite players at that position. Burns will get every penny he is worth either here or elsewhere. Based on the offer the organization turned down I would bet it’s going to be here. Folks have to deal with it.
  2. BY and his agent want to maximize his income. Rightfully so. The Panthers organization want to minimize risk. Rightfully so. Both groups need the contract signed and have BY in camp on time. The sausage making will get done this week because it is in everyone’s best interest to do so.
  3. What would you expect from the people that faked a moon landing. /s
  4. I hope the folks in N.O, Atlanta and TB grow to hate BY as much as we hated Brees, Ryan and Brady. That’ll be a true measure of success.
  5. Don’t blame BY for negotiating. Don’t blame the org for it either. Just business. But it will get done.
  6. I remember that fiasco. Used to visit Smack forum to read SCP abuse that Alice dude. Such fond memories of the good old days.
  7. As a player, he’s got a bit of a mean streak in him.
  8. I think maybe he needs to play a snap or two for me to have any definite opinions. Maybe even win a game? I’m very enthusiastic about him but I just want to give him time to settle in a bit.
  9. I think it was mixed but personally I was happy the team was trying to do something. I don’t think many were really excited about BM, they were just excited to have something to hope for. but yeah it was rhule so it was just the next train wreck.
  10. A head coach Micromanaging PR on a professional sports team classifies as worrying about things that don’t matter, Matt. I feel a bit purified too. Good riddance.
  11. Take that poll after young makes a (run of the mill, every rookie goes through this) mistake in practice and I suspect your results will be way different. Personally I’m very optimistic but it’s gonna take some time to fully come together. Good to be excited for this team again.
  12. Haven’t paid much attention yo defense as it has been overshadowed by new toys on the other side of the ball. But yes it will be interesting to see. I have questions on who compliments Burns and how our backfield shakes out. Not overly concerned (yet) but I hope Horn/DJax are healthy and ready to go.
  13. Just me, but I’m not a sauce guy. If my bbq needs sauce I need better bbq. Generally a bit of Texas Pete gets me by. On a similar note, my then 16 year old son got a job as a line cook last summer. He caught on fairly well till he had to stock deliveries one morning before opening. Manager told him to take the steak sauce to the pantry. His reply…. What is steak sauce? True story and Proud papa
  14. Minnesota had 4800 receiving yards last year and Theilen was #2 behind Jefferson. I personally hope Theilen doesn't end up being #2 on the list and would not value him less even if he has a dropoff. Hopefully the young guys catch on and carry the load. Let him be primarily a redzone/TD and 3rd down pass catching machine but from a production standpoint I want development from the youngsters.
  15. Yes. You are both correct. That is a complete brain fart and was a stupid statement on my part. Thanks for pointing that out.
  16. That group had Olsen and a waning Cotchery but not much else. While this team doesn't have a talent like Olsen, we do have several sturdy and capable pieces. Also, I think the Oline is probably much better than the group back then. That coupled with a more innovative coaching staff leads me to believe this Panther group will surprise a lot of people this year. I think if Young will have some normal growing pains as a rookie but he will impress. Probably drinking some homerade, but I think we will be in a position to win the division this year.
  17. I think from a media perspective you don't have any star players, a new coaching staff and an unproven rookie at QB. Bryce has many positives but from a broad brush view they are taking a stance of we will have to see if it works out. I think many folks are following this approach. I think a lot of people (self included) are generally excited about what is happening with the team and particularly what is being put together on offense. I dont think we are instant dynasty but the team is coming together. I expect us to be in the mix for the NFC South this year. There's going to be growing pains but as a fan it is hard not to be excited about the direction of the team.
  18. I see the point and for sure, I agree with the sentiment. But it is a brutal game and an NFL career is over in a blink of an eye. Everybody is balling out for a contract. It might not be the first thing out of their mouths or front and center in the attitude they approach the game with, but ultimately money is the driver for most players. There are probably a handful of guys that would play for minimum wage (exaggerating for clarity), but I suspect this is the exception.
  19. Looking forward to episode 3. Just finished episode 2 and it was very good. Perhaps my personal favorite quote was DJ Shark to Adam Thielen “Stank Mouth”. It was worth the watch just for that. Really enjoying these.
  20. My interpretation of the original post was that we just need to be careful because there are other rookies out there. I agree with that sentiment. However, when teams with established "vet" QBs get new receivers and offensive weapons I don't think they shut down the entire playbook so everyone can catch up. That said, there should be a balance to make sure everyone else can come along but the fact that your bottleneck isn't because of the rookie QB (which IMO would be the most difficult/detailed) is a positive.
  21. the TLDR version is, above is a very well said and valid point, but if your rookie QB isn’t drinking water from a fire hydrant like the rest of the young guys, it’s a good thing. If the Qb, the rookie Qb, digests and understands these concepts it will bode well for the team. Vet QBs often play with rookie receivers , backs etc.. and their command of the offense helps the inexperienced players grow. If your rookie can take on some of those field general tasks sooner than later it will put you in a better position in the long run.
  22. A real fan bitches and moans about everything the team does. He forgets he complained about what worked but reminds everyone about him predicting what would go wrong. Those guys toil and suffer in misery every day “for the team”. They are the real fans and are to be revered by us mere mortals.
