Ja'Wuan James at 28?

Recommended Posts

I don't hate Gettelmen. I want him to succeed but I won't hold my tongue when I think he's made a bad move. Just like I was with Hurney, Seifert and Capers.

You know deep in your chest you would be disappointed with Juwan in the 1st round. You don't have to add the caveat "I'm not a scout" none of us are. You don't have to be if you disagree with a move.

I said already I wouldn't agree with the pick.  But it wouldn't be the first time that's happened and it won't be the last.

Like I said, I'd hope they were right.  I prefer to reserve my "told you so"s until something either works out or doesn't.

I'd also remind myself that media draft grades don't necessarily match up with team draft grades.

From what I have read and heard from the talking heads he doesn't seem to be a first round guy. Where could he realistically be ranked positionaly? Would he be somewhere between 6-10 in the Tackle group? If so, then selecting him at 28 would be a bit of a reach therefore placing him outside of G-mans preferred BPA draft strategy.

I'm sorry. I just don't see what there is not to like with JJ. He may not have received as many accolades and hoopla in college, but from my understanding he did nothing but do his job (if you get what I'm saying).   Like JOAT said, it's not like the guy has a bunch of weaknesses, and I've read that he can be downright nasty sometimes, particularly in the run game.   Just like with anyone, if G-man deems him worthy of the 28th pick, then who am I to question this proven exec?

Ahhh. Here are some recent rankings from SB Nation just for you.

James is not chopped liver, and personally I think that he does deserve the number 6 ranking from what I've read.

I see him going in the mid 2nd - mid 3rd round. Here is some tape on on him. (will give a proper evaluation after I watch a few)

Curious as to what qualifies you to provide "proper evaluation" on a prospect?

Not calling you out, but I see this a lot and it usually makes be chuckle.

I like James and I want him on our team either in the 1st or 2nd, whichever we have to get him at. If he's plug and play somewhere on the o-line this season and has the potential to be our rock at LT I don't see what should stop us.

    • Also, in regards to XL and guys like Renfrow and JHJ, it’s hard to truly evaluate them because they aren’t getting enough opportunities.  XL, to me, seems like he turned a corner, which was evident in that career game a couple of weeks ago…  but then he’s only getting a couple of targets over the next couple of weeks.  Not to pile on Bryce because everyone knows where I stand on him, but it’s because of him.  Bryce made a nice throw to him yesterday, XL made a nice clutch grab, and then a packers defender took a cheap shot on him and he was out for a bit (I believe he came back?).  But, overall, it feels like for most of our WRs it’s feast or famine and no in between:  it’s not enough consistency in targets and distribution.
    • Pretty sure it was both.  And the screen throw to rico that he literally jumped to do and it sailed over his head.  That type of poo is not fixable
    • I just think it was an awful throw. He was trying to throw to the back pylon and just missed terribly. He had a little bit of pressure in his face and he can't deal with that. That's when the awful throws usually happen. I don't have a problem with that shot if it's thrown to the back pylon where it should've been. That ball thrown correctly to the outside is either caught by XL of is safely missed high and/or outside. You cannot miss that throw short and inside.
