Defensive Ends

pilot2011

Recommended Posts

DG is obviously trying build the most intimidating front 7 in the league, and I think the Defensive End position is shaping up to look a lot like the 07 Giants superbowl team. Strahan, Tuck, and Umenyiora had 9, 10, and 13 sacks for the season, with 20 more sacks from the rest of the team.

Hardy, Johnson, and Ealy along with Hall/Addison make a damn good D-end group. Potentially great.

It is a great pickup based on value and foresight. Chances are CJ or Hardy will be let go next season so we already have the replacement in place. Got 1st round talent for a late 2nd round pick to fix a problem in 2015.

Yes yes I know OT is a big problem but what do you do when there isn't one there that can beat out our current guys. Kinda pointless right.

Don't forget about Frank Alexander! He'll be working extra hard this season so these guys who play will have warm seats to plop on after smacking those pussies Brees and Ryan around.

I know we don't run a 3-4 (making this scenario a little different$, but I'm intrigued by the possibility of Alex Hall as a standup blitzing LB on passing downs coming in behind CJ. One thing I noticed watching Hall is that he is damn fast.

Maybe something like this...

Ealy - Hardy - Short - CJ ^ Hall

Have Hall line-up on the tight end and once the ball is snapped, bump the TE to slow him down and then have Kuechly rotate to pick him up. Hall will then follow CJ in what will likely lead to a sack for Hall because the QB was flushed out of the pocket by Ealy and Hardy.

Good luck defending that.

Just a thought, carry on.

    • I agree, but I've already said that the players will definitely take more money up front because it's more security. But they want more guaranteed money and NFL FOs don't want to do that for several and various reasons, and that's what's at issue.  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-second-round-rookies-finally-starting-to-sign-what-took-so-long-and-what-it-means-for-future-contracts/ It's a tug of war between teams and players, and, sure, paying a player a signing bonus may satisfy them, especially if--and sometimes "only if"--it ultimately leads to a guarantee of more of their contract, but the teams are on the hook for all of those guarantees when cap time comes, so if they guarantee more money, they're ultimately losing the contract game.
    • TBH, these are the kind of players that get weeded out of professional sports pretty quickly. Also, CMC is not that guy. There is zero indication that he isn't competitive.
    • I like the free agency. It actually helps basically all schools across the board. Pretty much only ancient HC's and/or HC's that haven't been able to adjust have been complaining about the free agency. Your fortunes can be made or broken every offseason. It's not like before where a bad recruiting class or two meant multiyear purgatory.  I will never understand all the bellyaching about the NIL. If you want to talk about what ruined college athletics, it has been naked greed. Conference expansions for TV revenue, ever skyrocketing AD and facilities costs and now the attempts to permanently ruin the postseasons(football and basketball).  All the kids did was get a very well deserved piece of a very, very, VERY broken pie.
