Why not Eric Winston?

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's just me but I completely forgot about Eric Winston as an option for us at left tackle. He still hasn't been picked up by anyone and could be a decent 1 or 2 year stop gpa player for us until we draft one.

After we sign our draft picks he could be a steal!

Thoughts?

I'm surprised he hasn't been picked up.  He's a RT, not a LT, but I figured someone would've picked him up as a stopgap or just veteran competition.  He's only 30.  Gotta be a reason for it you'd think.  Maybe teams aren't interested for whatever reason or, more likely, he and his agent are holding out for a better opportunity and more money.  He could see his value improve if a couple of OTs get hurt in training camp or pre-season.  At the end of the day, he may be able to find himself a situation where he can make more money AND skip training camp.  Win-win for him.

Eric Winston is a RT, and I'm almost certain he has never even played LT in the NFL.

    • I mean, I think you're being a little hyperbolic with the last statement, but point taken.
    • Pass rush was the biggest issue in tonight’s game, and we were tied for 28th in sacks this season. That is a major area of need that has to get addressed this offseason. I just don’t see a path where there’s a game changing QB you can bring in with where we are drafting and quality of veterans that will be available. We certainly can do better than Dalton as a backup, and should ideally have a developmental guy  (perhaps a day 3 pick this year). We have bryce for one more year on a reasonable contract and then I think 2027 is the year that you reset that position (unless he massively improves).
    • Agreed, honestly basically bringing this group back as a healthy unit would be alright.  Brady Christensen should be resigned to a very reasonable deal with him recovering from the Achilles.  Atleast we're alright at 4 of our 5 spots with Lewis, Mays, Hunt, and Moton, Nijman was decent.  While if we can snag a deal on someone, take a stab, however our resources need to go to Linebacker, Pass Rush and a real option outside Tmac (coker is amazing, but if we can get someone who isnt braindead opposite Tmac, we can fully unleash Coker AND Tmacs full potential, cant move him into the slot if racoon boy is out there licking doorknobs).
