Hurst Impressing

Oh UNC fanboys. Your endless homerism would make more sense if your team wasn't a trashheap of mediocrity.

Lol

We won the coastal two years ago in Fed's first year. Had a very strong finish to the season last year culminating in a bowl blowout considering our starting QB got injured mid way through the season.

Keep doubting.

So if Benjamin impresses in camp then it's because he's good, but if Hurst looks good it doesn't matter since Armanti Edwards looked good.

That's essentially what is being implied.

Hurst was one of the best left tackles in the country before he got injured, talent and ability was never in question... if he's healthy of course he's going to look good.

EVERY team passed on Hurst for 7 rounds....just like we did.

18 teams offered him an UDFA contract...I bet we are one of them.

Based on this....we made the correct decision.  He just picked a different team.

Get over it.

I am 'over" it. I am an "is what it is" type of person.  That doesn't mean it can't be discussed on the Huddle. You guys need to get over it

It's way too early to say if we made the "correct" decision, or the "incorrect" decision.  At this point it is still all very much guess work, and like I told someone else in another thread: There is probably a higher degree of guessing when it comes to these matters than anyone is willing to admit---whether layman or professional.

UNC student & diehard here. I never get the hype.

Didn't think they'd be anything special last year despite all of the Carolina fan hype. Still don't think they'll be anything special, albeit a bit more optimistic than I was this time last year, despite those super early rankings and some hype.

But then again, UNC was my least favorite college team in both sports before I was a student here simply because most "fans" are absolute idiots and have zero ties to the school. It's a total Steelers / Lakers type bandwagon fanbase, and the majority of them don't even know that much about anything UNC anyways.

But I digress. Thus is sports.

Cut the sh*t...

NCSU fans say the same thing when talking about David Thompson... "We would have more than two lousy championships if our players knew the rules."

Just out a pipe in it because you guys have had your fair share of violations.

Acting holier than though makes you look ignorant because you don't even know your own teams history.

Every GM misses on late round and UDFA gems every year so not sure your point.

To that I would say step your scouting game up.

Obviously we don't know if any of those gems are LT's yet, but the point still remains.

'Step my scouting game up...'

I forgot you believe you can judge just as well as a professional personnel guy because you search the internet and watch YouTube

'Impressive in minicamp' is one of those things that's cool to hear, but ultimately meaningless.

Even in the rookie camp threads, you'll find people saying "cool but it's just minicamp."

I am not the one drafting, thus my acumen is not relevant to this discussion whether good or bad.

So it is "your/their" and not "my".

    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
