Most Irreplaceable Defenders - Kuechly #2

That would not be equivalent. Equivalent would be if you were to say say Calvin Johnson is good because Detroit's WR corp is good. With the bold you're making a different argument.

Sherman takes away half the field. That's just one player eliminating an entire half of a field. That gives DCs a lot of room to maneuver.

i get your point, but dont you think when you say half the field, that's a little more than exaggerated?  if a team lined 3 wr's up to his side, you are suggesting he can cover all 3 of them?

Ok so, how about "the Panther's offensive line is good because Kalil is good"... how is that different...?

Regardless, you didn't address my actual point, which was that what I meant by my original post was that Sherman is as good as he is because of the OTHER DBs in the secondary. This is actually how most people would interpret the statement, and I suspect you knew what I meant.

Seattle's d-line is actually underrated. I mean its not as good as ours, but it helps their secondary out.

And Sherman isn't even the best player in that secondary. Earl Thomas is.

They just have a group of players that fit their system perfect.

Wasn't that originated by the media as a mean to compliment(or hype) certain players? It's synonymous to an athletic rocket scientist. lol

Yeah, I mean its not like Luke is easily one of the most athletic LBers in the league... nah, he's Blaine Gabbert.

Jeeze, can this moron get banned for racism already? He spews this thinly-veiled crap in nearly every thread.

Two players... one of them a SB champion,  the other is the reigning DPOY.

Kuechly has great players around him on the Dline and Davis is next to him..

Sherman has great players around him...  an underrated Dline and the best safety duo in the NFL.

With both players obviously playing amazing football..  I'd give the nudge to Kuechly.     He has more to do,  he is the general of his defense... pulling and tugging on players to put them in the right position,  for them to make the most impact.     Sherman does a fantastic job...  but I'd take the guy that is coordinating his defense,  and going toe to toe with Qbs,  trying to counter what they call.

I agree with the example of "it's like saying a WR is more valuable than a QB".   Both Kuechly and Sherman are at the top of their respective positions.    It would be like saying Megatron is more valuable than Peyton Manning.    Both amazing players,  but the nudge always goes to the guy that has a lot more on his plate,  in the case of both being at the top or close to the top of their positions.

Take away our DEs and how good is our defense??

All or just hardy and cj? The line rotates constantly while keek plays without rest? A team with zero de's would surely struggle. Our defense was terrible in 2010 and 2011 with those same ends but no Luke

    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
    • Guessing the price is too rich here given the injury history.  2024 was brutal and production dropped off in 2025 with a few more injuries (albeit rough qb play).    Don’t really understand the narrative that Young can’t benefit from talented upgrades on offense. Especially here with respect to a tight end. Any QB will benefit from talented receivers that threaten the top of coverage and tight ends with skills to stress zone.    The age and injury history, coupled with what he’s likely asking, just probably means we can better spend that money elsewhere.
