long term deal for hardy was never in the plans

Recommended Posts

Hardy is still IMMATURE(Hardy was even late to meetings last season) and I don't think Gettle wants to give him big money, CJ has never been in trouble, he keeps to himself and handles his business on the field.

hardy will be motivated to show out this year and land himself a long term contract, either with us or with another team. we are paying a premium to keep the defensive line (key in our run last year) intact while kony ealy gains a year of experience, after which we can decide whether jettisoning hardy or johnson makes the most sense.

not cheap, but makes sense IMO

Wtf? How does this scource have any credibility when it comes to saying stuff like this? They don't know if it were in the plans or not. They don't know if the arrest had anything to do with it. Its just another damn panther twitter feed speculating

Read it all people.  It says we are not and never really were going to give Hardy a long term deal BEFORE THE DEADLINE.  That doesn't mean we won't give him a long term deal.  And no matter how well he plays this year he can't really ask for much more money than he's wanting this year.

Either he comes back down to earth and gets a reasonable deal or he really is the next great DE in the NFL and we franchise his butt again or sign him then to a long term deal with all the cap savings from cutting CJ.

This is a prove it year.  Prove that he's not a fluke.  Prove he can be consistent.  Prove he's somewhat mentally stable.  Seems like a win-win to me.

Exactly.  that is how I read it as well.

They fully intended for him to play under the tag this season and would not invest a long term contract with him until he proved to be more stable.

I don't think after this latest episode (no matter how it turns out), he is any longer in the Panthers long term plans.Between his pin head agent playing hardball and this crap...he be gone in 2015.Kony may get a lot more snaps then expected and maybe F.A. gets one more shot (if he isn't cut and gets out the dog house). Read the tea leaves...D.G has a plan and it doesn't include #76.They will re-structure C.J next year and life will go on.

There was no way in hell Gettleman was gonna give Hardy a long-term deal after Ealy fell into his lap in the draft.

Why pay Hardy now? See what you have in Ealy and make Hardy prove he can do it again this year. If he has another great year, he will get a long-term deal in Carolina. Then as long as Ealy plays well they will move the older Johnson. If he struggles or plays lazy, and Ealy shows potential, they will get rid of Hardy.

Common sense, people. There's no reason to sign him now. Make him earn his money. Just because Dave isn't throwing money at him now doesn't mean he's only here this season. More than likely Ealy/Hardy will be the DEs moving forward unless Johnson takes a massive pay cut, which I don't see happening. They don't call him Big Money for nothing.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
