NFL.com: Cam Newton primed to regress

Cary Kollins

With the uncertainty of running back Jonathan Stewart (ankle), unproven wide receivers outside of Steve Smith, question marks in the secondary

Even Newton, ESPN's beat writer said the same things last year and look what we accomplished.

Panthers are typically underrated. I mean even by the NFL didn't they move a Sunday panthers saints game to prime time cause the one they had was crap and didn't matter like they thought it would?

i guess i would understand the media obsession ,with panther WR lack of talent if we had 2 or 3 ballers last season. to me that concern barely registers a blip compared to oline.  anyway panthers were what? 30 in the league in passing last season? i do not see cam regressing because of WRs.  he has arguably the most talented receiver he has ever thrown to now on the team.

our MO will never be that of a pass happy team.  1000+ yard receivers do not make this team tick.  i'd much rather have a 1000 yard back if i had to choose one.  oline gonna have to get better to have one of those though.

He doesn't really blame Newton for the expected 'regression'.

Many special posters on this forum have an irritating ability to think Cam is always being attacked by the media, ESPN, and whoever else ever since draft day. I thought it was just some draft drama but it never seems to end and has made a lot of threads/articles on Cam here unbearable for me to read, or get involved in; I find them other places on my own. There really isn't a whole lot putting Cam down out there despite this forums reaction to...everything. In fact I see a lot of positives out there for him. All QBs have their critics and the constant offense taken here is getting boring, redundant, and childish.

Cam can make something out of nothing and he's done it already last year with the blah receiving corp we had. Our defense really carried our team and that has not changed. So I don't get the obsession from the media to talk about how awful our offense will be and we're prone to regress. News flash, it was awful last season and we went what? 12-4.

Whatever NFL.com keep being a negative nancy on us.

He may have some valid points, but I don't think it's a crazy rebuttal in the least if one were to counter his argument by saying our WR's are absolutely better than we had last year, our interior O-line is better than last year, our RT is the same as last year, and if Nate Chandler can play to potential, our LT situation might not be nearly as bad as people are expecting. Stewart seems healthy for the first time in his NFL career, and Cam keeps getting better and better at his craft.

All in all, I think our offense can go from 28th to low 20's, which paired with the defense being better than last year, puts the Panthers right back in the playoffs.

Yeah!
