Saints TE Watson 'not worried' about the Panthers

From PFT...

“I will say this about our division, one team I’m not worried about is the Carolina Panthers,” Watson said.

The biggest reason Watson isn’t concerned about the Panthers is the historical trend regarding defending NFC South division champions. Since the NFL’s realignment in 2002, defending NFC South champions are 0-for-11 in attempts to win the title in consecutive seasons.

“The numbers say they won’t win it. There’s never been a repeat champ in the NFC South.” Watson said. “So we’re not worried about the Carolina Panthers. So there’s only two teams with Atlanta and Tampa Bay.”

So, ummm...yeah

That's right. Lets not be quick to right off the Panthers.

Despite the current trend, it’s probably going a little too far to completely right off the Panthers so easily.

I'm only pointing this out because there is no way I could find to contact the author.

On one hand I really want to express my outrage but I think it's best we let our defense do the talking. They're way better at it.

The one thing about the Panthers that we can count on,  more or less,  over the last decade or so..

when a team calls us out,  when another team disrespects us so bluntly.......... our guys normally up their game a great deal and bust the trash talking team right in their freaking mouth.

    • In terms of enthusiasm at this exact juncture it's a 5 only because regular season football is back and we are 0-0 and there is the development of some key young players that I am very interested in seeing in regular season action. That brief high will probably be knocked down to 1 by October though.
    • I think the preseason performance has caused a "Meh" Cloud  to hover over the fan base.  I still have some interest and while I don't expect a lot of wins, I think there are other things I would like to see in terms of the team at least going in the right direction. On offense is Bryce the guy and is XL moving forward? Is the defense performing better with DB back Are the rookies and 2nd year players developing? That said, for me there is some intrigue but I don't think they will compete for a playoff spot.
    • Well just a few years ago they went to the playoffs and won a playoff game with Daniel Jones at QB. And while the Giants have been up and down at best since their last Super Bowl they have shown to be a more competent organization. While the Panthers haven't so much as sniffed the playoffs in nearly a decade. Logic would dictate that the Giants strategy has a high probability to be at least modestly successful. The Panthers? Eh.
