Wonder how pissed off his teammates must be while they are busting their ass in the Spartanburg heat and this dude is walking the sidelines cashing in....don't care what you say...must be rumblings on the team about him.

while they watch players that busted their ass walk because they couldn't get signed because of stewart.

trust me players talk. this is a business.

Stewart is straight up robbing this team. He pretty much misses training camp every year. Plays a third of the games and laughs all the way to the bank. At this point, i wonder if he is claiming he is hurt when he is not just to be able to skip training camp and such.

I have no idea how worried he is about his future earnings, but I think you could view this as a contract year for him.  I would be surprised if he plays under his current contract next year for us.

Financially he has reasons to get on the field this year.

I still don't think this means anything. The guy has literally never gone to camp. Even before his ankles.

He'd also never really missed significant time...until last year.

For years now we've lived with the narrative of 'Stewart never practices, but he always plays'.  And while he's been effective as a runner, that running story always concerned me, especially as he gets older and gets more wear on his tires.

It's possible that last season was an aberration.  It;s sadly also possible that after years of playing Russian Roulette, we've finally taken a bullet.

I agree, but last year were his first "legitimate" injuries IMO. His ankles and then his knee against the Saints. He's always had "hamstring" issues which have never lead to missed games.

I have no doubt he is I mean it's no different than when a vet is "debating retirement" and just so happens to make up their mind to stay right after training camp lol

I'm over him. He's gotten soft ever since he signed that big contract. Yes it was Hurney's fault for giving it to him, but Stewart knew how bad the contract was also and still signed it. At least DeAngelo's restructure last year helps our cap for this year and next year. Stewart's, along with Kalil's restructure, this year only freed up about 4 mil, but his contract still keeps us in hell after this year. So he only helped us marginally.

F**k him. He's a soft, selfish, "injury prone" player. I have injury prone in quotes because I have doubts that he's actually injured and really can't play. He's just sitting back and cashing in on that Hurney contract.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
