Effing yellow jackets...

So, not this past weekend but the previous one, I was minding my own business venturing out to the woods behind the house to retrieve my game camera. Before you get all "omg you shouldn't kill animals" I don't hunt and use the camera just to see what kind of wildlife I can verify is coming through my property.

Anyway, I am making my way towards the trap and I notice a hole in the ground that's cleared out around and see several yellow jackets flying around the hole. I say to myself "cool, a yellow jacket nest... lemme just alter my path to avoid them.." I get my camera, and start heading back up to the house. I make my way around the nest again and then BOOM! fug YOUR LEG MOTHERfugER! A rogue flying hellion is latched on to my knee high white socks (that I put on to help me see any ticks that might want to chomp on me) with his stinger doing all kinds of stabbing into my calf just above my ankle. I've got all kinds of environmental allergies so there was a minor thought that I hoped I didn't get a reaction to the sting. All seemed well. Just a mosquito bite type irritation and some very minor pain for the remainder of the evening.

Fast forward one week, to this past weekend.

Saturday, the wife and I painted the kitchen. I was noticing (and had noticed) that the area around the sting had been pretty itchy all week. Well, that night after being on it a while (and being on it a while at a birthday party that morning) my ankle had started swelling a bit and was red and hot.

Sunday morning, she's blazin'. I can't cure the itch. I figure I've got a pretty bad infection going on, so off to the Urgent Care I go.

The doc starts throwing around the words "staph" and the anagram "MRSA" and the possible need to cut the wound open if it doesn't respond to medication and I'm all like "aww hell naw!"

I'm now on two antibiotics. I got the swelling pretty much under wraps and the heat is out of it. But, she's still itching like a sonofabitch. I still have some fear that the antibiotics won't fully rid me of whatever is going on in there, and that I'll have to go back to the doc for another round or something else.

Needless to say, as soon as I get back at 100% I know a certain yellow jacket civilization that will be wiped from the planet.

I just destroyed a nest of those assholes.

My wife saved her bosses life recently. He walked into her office/clinic after being stung in his yard. She had to apply 2 epi's and had the ER prepped for him. I asked if she requested no more 7am meetings afterwards.

I think the little bastards are worse this year.  I've heard serveral of these stories this summer and my mom just discovered a nest in an outside wall of her house.  She actually said she was going to pour gasoline down in the wall then I explained to her why that was a bad idea :phew:

    • It’s simple. Win and everyone in here will say the culture is good. Dear lord the amount of time spent on these posts is hysterical. We’ve seen the end of season swoons where you can tell the team had given up with many of the same leaders that took us to playoff seasons. When your OL is decimated by injuries, it’s amazing how fast culture turns. When you get on a tear like 2015, everyone’s having fun. You need the right people regardless, but they have to win.
    • The difference is about how much player input is allowed and encouraged in the decision making process. Top down teams tend to dictate to players how everything is handled. Disagreements are handled by the coach and players are expected to do what they are told regardless of what they think or feel.  Players are perceived as commodities to be used until we find better. In player led teams player input is encouraged and valued. Players and especially leaders are expected to settle their own disagreements and be accountable to the team but mostly to each other. Players are family to be appreciated and supported in their growth. Is the reality of football the same in both? Yeah there are limited positions, football is a business and winning is the bottom line. Coaches get final say and run the program because that is their job. But in player led teams they feel valued, appreciated, part of a larger whole. Most people who have worked at multiple jobs know exactly what I am talking about. When players try to run the show and don't value  coach input that isn't a player led team, that is a circus which we surely are familiar with in our past.
